Builder’s Day is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of August. In 2025, the holiday falls on August 10, and the Belarusian National Technical University extends its congratulations to the students, faculty, staff of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and all professionals in this field on their professional holiday.
History of the Holiday
In Belarus, Builder’s Day has been celebrated for more than 60 years. It is believed that the idea to establish Builder’s Day came to Nikita Khrushchev, the First Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee (who held the position from 1953 to 1964), during a visit to the under-construction Zhiguli Hydroelectric Power Station.The Soviet leader was so impressed by the scale and pace of its construction that he decided to honor the work of the people responsible for creating such monumental projects. At that time, there was plenty to be impressed by — the USSR was experiencing a true construction boom. Hundreds of enterprises were being launched, and the authorities finally began to seriously address the previously lagging housing construction sector.
Builder’s Day was celebrated for the first time on August 12, 1956. “Celebrated today, it will henceforth enter the calendar as a nationwide holiday,” newspapers wrote at the time — and they were not mistaken, as Builder’s Day has indeed become firmly established in the calendar.
Construction Specialists at BNTU
The Belarusian National Technical University trains specialists in this field at various faculties, who are responsible for different areas of activity.
The Faculty of Energy Costruction trains specialists who are engaged in the construction and operation of energy and water management facilities using natural and energy resources.In turn, the Faculty of Architecture trains architects directly, who will subsequently be engaged in the design, construction and reconstruction of civil and industrial facilities, as well as the development of project documentation and coordination of the work of performers.
In construction, specialists are also needed who are engaged in the development, creation and operation of equipment. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is responsible for their training. At the same time, the Faculty of Instrument Engineering trains specialists in all areas of modern instrument engineering, which is also used in various construction industries.
An equally important aspect is geodesy and the organization of transport communications, and the Faculty of Transport Communications is engaged in training specialists in this field.
The flagship faculty of the industry is the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Nikita Vabishevich, his Deputy Dean for Ideological and Educational Work, expressed his sincere congratulations to the employees of the construction industry.
