Today, June 25, at the Palace of the Republic, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Turchin presented Presidential Commendations to faculty members of higher education institutions, as well as students and cadets.
Among those honored by the head of state was Alexander Malashko, a student in the Faculty of Mining and Environmental Engineering. He received this significant award for outstanding academic achievements and active public service.
"I still can't fully comprehend that this is happening for real. You go to receive the award, and in your head you keep thinking, 'This is a dream.' It was all very unexpected and incredibly exciting—both the news of my nomination for the award and the announcement of the award itself. Now I can only rejoice. I am truly happy and proud that our work has been so highly recognized by both the country's leadership and our university." The President's gratitude isn't just my achievement; it's also a great credit to the faculty, who molded me into a specialist and a professional, who made me a successful student, who always answered my questions, helped, and supported me. It's also a credit to the large student body, with whom we collaborated on student council projects, ideas that were implemented at the university and national level, and with whom we created so much for the benefit of BNTU and our students," Alexander shared.
By his own admission, the young man can't immediately list all the accomplishments of his student years, but the most important ones will forever remain a source of inspiration for him.
"I have so many accomplishments, I probably can't even remember them all. One of the most memorable ones is being inducted into the BNTU Honor Roll and participating in the 2023 New Year's Ball at the Independence Palace, which was attended by the President. I'm also an electoral volunteer with the Central Election Commission. We accompanied international delegations during election campaigns. It was a very interesting and rewarding experience. But the most important thing is working on the student council and interacting with our student team. Thanks to the work of the entire team, including the students on our council, in the 2025/26 academic year, the student council of the Belarusian National Technical University won the national competition for the best student council and became the best in the country.
The university taught Alexander a lot. Experience interacting with people, building communication, listening to everyone, solving problems, making loyal friends, and obtaining an engineering education—all of this young man gained here at his alma mater.
According to Alexander, his success is due to the abundance of opportunities BNTU offers.
"To succeed at BNTU, you need to take advantage of our university's greatest strength—the vast array of development opportunities. Support is always available, so everyone can prove themselves. This primarily applies to academics: study hard, engage in research, participate in conferences, and write articles. This is a clear path to being nominated for a special scholarship and joining the Gifted Youth Fund. But you can develop beyond academics. With the support of the Center for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs, you can engage in active community service. This is another area where you can realize your potential. The Center for Ideological Work and Youth Affairs will always support you and guide you in the right direction. Young people have enough time and energy to realize themselves in all areas. Therefore, my advice to students: if you see an opportunity, be sure to seize it. Develop, gain knowledge, and broaden your horizons.
We congratulate Alexander on this high state award and are proud that BNTU is nurturing such determined leaders who, through their hard work and talent, bring benefit to their native Belarus!
