As part of the "Creativity and Innovations 2026" forum, on May 12, 2026, the Department of Geodesy and Aerospace Geotechnologies of the Belarusian National Technical University held its annual student scientific and technical conference dedicated to current issues of geodesy. The event was attended by students from the first to fourth years. They presented their research in the field of modern geodetic methods and technologies.
Wide Range of Research
The conference participants presented reports on the most relevant areas of development in the geodetic industry. Among the works presented were studies in the field of satellite navigation systems (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou), the influence of atmospheric factors on the accuracy of GNSS receivers in urban environments, as well as the analysis of satellite imagery in archaeology and the search for ancient objects based on spectral anomalies.
Particular interest was aroused by reports on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies and their application for high-detail surveying of complex landscapes. Students presented research on the use of UAVs in modern topographic surveying, aerial photography, and image interpretation for solving cadastral tasks of the Republic of Belarus.
A significant part of the reports was devoted to the introduction of digital technologies into geodetic practice. Students presented work on the automation of point cloud classification using neural network models, the application of LIDAR technology for geodetic measurements, the creation of building information models (BIM), and geodetic support for the verification of these models.
A separate area included research on the application of artificial intelligence in geodesy – data analysis, office geodetic work, aerial photo interpretation, and real-time deformation monitoring.
Innovative Methods and Historical Heritage
The conference showed that students actively study both modern innovative methods and the historical development of geodesy as a science. Reports were presented on the evolution of photogrammetry methods, the historical use of invar scales, and measurements made during the creation of the Struve Geodetic Arc – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Many reports focused on solving practical problems in the construction industry: geodetic control in construction, transfer of axes and elevations to mounting horizons during the construction of high-rise buildings, requirements for the accuracy of network positioning during as‑built surveys of utility networks.
Special attention was paid to geographic information systems (GIS) and their use for automated aerial photo interpretation, analysis of existing topographic surveying methods for the reconstruction of high-voltage power lines, and geometry justification for road surveys.
Significance of the Conference
The holding of the 82nd Student Scientific Conference at BNTU demonstrates the high level of student training. The participants showed a deep understanding of current trends in the development of the geodetic industry and a readiness to introduce innovative technologies into practice.
The conference became an important platform for knowledge and experience exchange among students, and also demonstrated the potential of young specialists in the field of geodesy and aerospace technologies.
