On October 8, 2023 Minsk hosted the qualifying competitions of the programming championship among students – the qualification Belarusian Regional Contest 2023. Participants competed for the right to pass to the next stage: "ICPC Belarus Regional Contest", which is the 1/4 stage of ICPC World Championship (International Collegiate Programming Contest), held since 1977 by the international Association for Computing Machinery.
The teams of the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU), Belarusian State University (BSU), Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR) and other educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus took part in the competition. In total, 12 teams of the Faculty of Information Technologies and Robotics of the Belarusian National Technical University showed up at the competition. Six of them qualified for the next stage of the competition – "BelarusionNTU#1FITRX3"(consisting of FITR students Olga Kikhtenko, Vadim Malevannyj, Artem Zaitsev), "BelarusianNTU#2Enigma" (consistingов of FITR students Evgeny Khanyak, Stanislav Trukhov and Vladimir Lemyashevich), "BelarusionNTU#3Pogchampions" (the students of FITR Bogdan Boreyko, Ivan Zhovnyak, Kirill Ptukhi), "BelarusianNTU#9PogJuniors" (the students of FITR Gleb Moskovkin, Ivan Dedyshko, Roman Dervoed), "BelarusianNTU#12Web-Vikings", "BelarusianNTU#10ProgrammersGuild" (the students of FITR Andrej Kernozhitsky, Daniil Sevts, by Herman Zhuravsky).
There were two leaders of our university teams: Associate Professor of the Mining Machines Department Elena Kastiukevich and Senior lecturer of the Information Systems and Technologies Software Department Iryna Borisova.
Competitions were held according to the established rules: three participants were provided with a computer isolated from the Internet, a set of complex algorithmic tasks and five hours to solve them. Teams were not allowed to use electronic devices other than the provided computer and reference literature. A task was considered solved correctly if it passed all the tests in the verification system prepared in advance by the jury and met the time and memory limits. For correct solving, participants were awarded a penalty time equal to the time from the beginning of the context to the decision-making system. For each incorrectly submitted solution, an additional 20 minutes were awarded for each attempt. The team that completed a large number of tasks and earned less penalty time won – the result was checked in an automated testing system.
Команда The #1 FITRX3 team solved 8 tasks and entered the top 30 of the best, the #2 Enigma and #3 Pogchampions teams solved 7 problems each and entered the top 40, the #9, #10 and #12 teams successfully completed 6 tasks and entered the top 80 participants of the competition out of 237 teams.
The competitions were the first start of the new season, which was preceded by active preparation. In August-September 2023, BNTU students participated in training camps at the universities of Azerbaijan (Baku) and Russia (Petrozavodsk). From September 25 to September 30, already on the basis of our university, the first (ICPC Training camp) with international participation was held. The teachers of three leading universities of Belarus joined them efforts to provide this event: BNTU, BSU and BSUIR, the LLC Huawei Technological Company was a partner of this event.
In addition, our students Olga Kikhtenko, Bogdan Boreyko and IvanZhovnyak, who had previously achieved significant success in programming contests, took part in the 2nd Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia Talent Summit, which was held from September 24 to 28, 2023 (Sochi, Russian Federation).
Intense preparation and training brought a lot of new knowledge and experience to students, which provided significant results and high places in the standings.
