Created in 1980 as an academic choir. In 1986, the team received the title of "people's". He is a multiple laureate and diploma winner of international competitions and festivals.
In April 2001, the group once again successfully confirmed the honorary title of "folk", became the Laureate of the festival of folk art "Suzorye", and was renamed the folk choir.
The folk choir of BNTU takes an active part in many events held by the department of culture, the university, the district, the city.
The team took part in the Republican Festival of Choral Art in Minsk (III degree Diploma); in the VI International Festival of Orthodox chants (Diploma of II degree).

In 2011, at the 1st Republican competition of choral creativity "Rekha", the chapel was awarded the Diploma of the Laureate of the 1st degree, at the 6th Interregional Competition of Choral Art "Ad Shchyraga Sertsa" the group became the Laureate of the 2nd degree.
In the regional competition "Leader of the Year-2010" the People's Choir became the winner in the nomination "The Best Collective of Amateur Creative Activities".
At the 6th International Forum of Student Choirs "Paparats-kvetka" the choir was awarded two diplomas - "Best Conductor", "Best Performance of a Classical Work".
In 2012 at the VII International festival-forum of student choirs "Paparats-kvetka" - a diploma in the nomination "For conveying the values of modern Belarusian choral music".
In May 2012, the trip of the National Choir to the XXXI International Festival of Church Music "Hajnówka - 2012" in Bialystok took place, where the group became a diploma winner.
In 2013 at the city festival of folk art "Suzor`e" for groups with the title of "folk" · the team successfully confirmed the title of "folk" and received the Loireate Diploma.
In 2013, at the International Television Competition for Choirs "Khoroshou", the choir received a Laureate Diploma.
In 2014 the choir took part in the Winter Light festival in Vilnius.
In September 2015, the folk choir took part in the final of the nationwide action "Choral Veche" , which took place in the memorial church in honor of All Saints and in memory of the victims who served to save our Fatherland.
In 2016, the team received the Special Jury Prize of the International Festival of Orthodox Songs "Kolozhsky Blagovest" in Grodno.
At the end of 2016, the ensemble celebrated its 35th anniversary by giving a big concert in the 8th academic building of BNTU. To congratulate the birthday people came: the choir of the Belarusian State University, the Belarusian State Linguistic University, as well as the choir "Gabya" of the Vilnius Technical University. Gediminas.
March 5, 2017 in the concert hall "Upper City" the choir performed at the festival of folk art "Suzor'e" and successfully confirmed the title of "folk".

With creative victory!
From December 3 to 5, 2017, the conductor of the folk choir of the cultural, educational and historical and educational center of the Belarusian National Technical University Elena Vyacheslavovna Klimova traveled to St. Petersburg (Russia) to participate in the award ceremony and the final concert of the laureates and the X All-Russian Open Composers Competition “Choral laboratory XXI century. Music for children and youth.
The solemn event took place on the stage of the State Academic Chapel, the concert hall of which is rightfully considered one of the most famous in St. Petersburg. The concert began with the introduction of the jury and a welcoming speech by the chairman of the jury, Vladimir Alekseevich Sapozhnikov, Secretary of the Board of the Union of Composers of St. Petersburg, after which the award ceremony began. Composers from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, Macedonia and the USA took part in the anniversary competition, in total 172 works from 86 composers were submitted to the competition.
The composition of Klimova E.V. "Oh, a wound on Yvan" was awarded the first place in the nomination "Music for folk texts and arrangements of folk songs." All laureates and diploma winners of the competition were awarded diplomas, booklets and programs of the festival. According to the results of the competition, it is also planned to publish the collection "Choral Laboratory of the XXI century" vol. 9 in the publishing house "Composer" of St. Petersburg.
After the award ceremony, a concert was held with the participation of children's and mixed choirs from St. Petersburg and Moscow, in which a significant part of the works of the winners was performed. After the concert, a creative meeting was held with members of the competition jury, composers and musical figures to discuss the prospects and proposals for future competitions. Separately, many choir conductors and composers noted the high level of the Belarusian composer school, its melodism, melodiousness and originality.
On December 4, a meeting was held with the Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, a member of the Union of Concert Workers of the Russian Federation, the secretary of the composers' competition Irina Roganova. The folk choir of BNTU received an offer to come to St. Petersburg in April 2018 with a performance in concerts of the North-Western District.
The trip turned out to be interesting and educational in professional terms, as there was an opportunity to hear and evaluate the level of St. Petersburg choirs, both amateur and professional, as well as get acquainted with modern choral compositions.
