Every day in Belarus, on average, one murder and three serious bodily injuries are registered, a quarter of which are committed by loved ones.

Violence is a crime, and every crime is punishable by a just and deserved punishment. The Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus provides for several articles:

  • Article 147 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus: intentional infliction of serious bodily injury is punishable by imprisonment for up to fifteen years.
  • Article 139 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus—intentional, unlawful killing of another person (murder)—is punishable by imprisonment for up to twenty-five years, life imprisonment, or the death penalty.

If you feel you are unable to cope with your emotions or are unable to resolve conflicts peacefully, you can change the situation. In difficult situations, law enforcement officers (24-hour hotline 102) and specialists from local social service centers and medical institutions are always ready to help.

A protective order may be imposed on a person who has committed domestic violence, which prohibits the following:

  • attempting to ascertain the whereabouts of the victim;
  • visiting the location of the victim;
  • communicating with the victim;
  • disposing of property shared with the victim; and may also be required to temporarily leave the living space they share.

There is always another way; the main thing is to take the right step in a critical situation.
