Very soon the clock will strike midnight and each of us will be heading into 2025, a year full of hopes and expectations. This means that it is time to summarize the results of the previous year, i.e. to look back and evaluate the work we have done. We have prepared a selection of the 10 most significant events for Politex in 2024.
Engineering education at the state level
In December 2024, the Belarusian National Technical University hosted a meeting with the participation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Roman Golovchenko. It was the first time Polytechnic was honored to host such a large-scale event. The main topic of the meeting was the quality of engineering training and the development of engineering education until 2035. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Karankevich and Igor Petrishenko, Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Ivanets, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Vladimir Gusakov, Rector of BNTU Sergey Kharitonchik, rectors of Belarusian universities, representatives of ministries, enterprises - customers of engineering personnel in Belarus, including JSC “Amkodor”, JSC “MAZ”, JSC “Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant”, JSC “INTEGRAL”, JSC “Minsk Tractor Plant” and others.
New dormitory
This year a new dormitory for BNTU students was built on behalf of the President. Students have already participated in the preparation for the commissioning of dormitory No. 19. Very soon it will open its doors, the documents for occupancy are in the process of preparation.
Professional training
The main building of BNTU hosted the grand opening of the Center for Technical Hydromechanics and Hydraulic Machines at the Department of Hydraulic and Power Engineering Construction, Water Transport and Hydraulics of the Faculty of Power Engineering.
The Center of Technical Hydromechanics and Hydraulic Machines is a scientific project implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus. Unique equipment has been installed here, training and laboratory modules have been created for research and development work of students, undergraduates, postgraduates and teachers.
Polytechnic Technopark fulfills annual state order for knee endoprostheses
Domestic knee joint endoprosthesis is a development of the Scientific and Technological Park of BNTU “Polytechnik”. It is made of high-quality metal and plastic. It took about ten years from the idea to serial production.
Knee endoprosthesis is three component parts. However, to perform the operation, doctors need a large set of instruments - five boxes of all kinds of medical equipment. Such sets are also manufactured in the BNTU Technopark and are already used in the capital's clinics.
Sport
Biathlete, silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Beijing - 2022, silver and bronze medalist of the World Cup stages, bronze medalist of junior world and European championships, student of BNTU Anton Smolsky this year again confirmed his skills, becoming the winner in the overall standings of the Commonwealth Cup Biathlon season-2023/24.
In the World Rapid Chess Championship, Maxim Tsaruk, a BNTU student, became the Rapid champion, while Alexandra Tarasenko, a BNTU student, became the Rapid and Blitz champion. Such a high result is a consequence of hard work and daily preparation. We wish the guys success in their future endeavors!
Grant of the President of the Republic of Belarus
First defense of Belarusian scientists in Uzbekistan
Andrei Ponasenko, Rector Advisor of BNTU (now Director of the Belarusian-Uzbek Interindustry Institute of Applied Technical Qualifications), successfully defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Technical Sciences at the Tashkent Institute of Chemical Technology. This was the first defense of Belarusian scientists in Uzbekistan.
International cooperation
In St. Petersburg, Rector of BNTU Sergey Kharitonchik and Rector of the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II Vladimir Litvinenko signed an agreement on the establishment of a reference educational and research center of the International Center of Competence in Mining Education under the auspices of UNESCO on the basis of Polytechnic.
For reference: The International Center of Competence in Mining Education under the auspices of UNESCO was established in 2018 and is based at the St. Petersburg Mining University of Empress Catherine II.
BNTU celebrated its 104th anniversary
Traditionally, our university was congratulated by the rector, noting the achievements of the university for such a long period. In addition, BNTU received congratulations from Tashkent State Transport University, Intersectoral Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining in Management and Personnel Development, Department of Criminal Intelligence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno.
Student of the Year
This year at the city stage of the contest “Student of the Year” BNTU was worthily represented by Ksenia Korteleva, a student of the Faculty of Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship. She became the owner of the title “Student of the Year ONLINE Minsk - 2024”.
