The department, consisting of 15 full-time teachers, provides training for students, undergraduates, applicants in English (FMTH), German, French, and Chinese at all faculties of the BNTU (except for FMME). The course of study in the first foreign language - English (as a major discipline) for students of the specialty "Customs Affairs" FMTH ends with the passing of the State exam. The module of professionally oriented foreign language training includes work in student groups of special courses "Business Foreign Language", "Technical Translation", "Special Vocabulary", etc. The staff of the department takes examinations of the candidate's minimum in the discipline "Foreign Language (German, French, Spanish)".
In addition to the compulsory course of foreign language training, students have the opportunity to study foreign languages in elective groups .
At the department there are teaching courses of foreign languages (English, Chinese, German). The target audience of the training courses: full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students, the teaching staff of BNTU, foreign students, as well as specialists from various sectors of the national economy of the Republic of Belarus. The courses are predominantly practical and focused on the formation and development of students' communication skills in a wide variety of situations of social and professional activities.
The department has established contacts with the Confucius Institute for Science and Technology BNTU.
The department has a well-developed educational and methodological base. For the implementation of foreign language training of future specialists, the department has authentic foreign literature, educational and methodological material developed by the teachers of the department, audio and video materials, modern technical teaching aids: a multimedia language laboratory.
At the disposal of students, undergraduates and applicants is a methodical office, where you can get advice, the necessary educational and methodological literature for independent work, electronic educational and methodological complexes.
In order to develop scientific creativity and cognitive interest in foreign languages and the culture of the country of the language being studied, the staff of the department annually holds a student scientific and technical conference and foreign languages olympiad . The purpose of these activities is the formation of students' linguistic, speech, communicative, sociolinguistic and sociocultural competencies.
