Scientific Research Work of the Teaching Staff
The lecturers of the department carry out diverse scientific research work. Currently, the department is finalizing work on the state-funded departmental project "Formation of the Professional Culture of a Technical University Teacher" (scientific supervisor – O.V. Veremeichik), which includes five main stages.
The department's faculty members take an active part in various international scientific conferences on the problems of linguistics, cultural studies, pedagogy, and methods of teaching foreign languages, both within the Republic of Belarus and abroad. The practical result of participation in these conferences is the publication of reports in the relevant collections of proceedings.
The department regularly holds meetings of the scientific and methodological seminar "Mastering Students' Foreign Language Training at Technical University." Department staff present reports, discuss problematic issues, as well as educational and methodological manuals being prepared for publication, and make decisions on improving the educational process.
The department carries out the review of educational and methodological manuals, scientific articles, and student research papers submitted to the Republican Contest of Scientific Research Works of Students of the Republic of Belarus, etc.
The teachers of the department constantly work on improving their professional qualifications by undergoing internships at various universities in Minsk.
Scientific Research Work of Students
The staff of the department actively promote the creative growth and research activities of students. Annually, within the framework of BNTU Science Days, the department holds a student scientific and technical conference on foreign languages. Under the guidance of the department's lecturers, undergraduate and graduate students prepare reports and presentations.
There are 5 sections operating within the conference (English, German, French, Spanish, and Chinese). Anyone interested can take part in the conference. All student papers and reports are prepared in foreign languages on current topics: linguistics, regional studies, cultural studies, ecology, economics and management, customs affairs, architecture and construction, engineering, instrument and machine building, power engineering, and others. As a rule, the participants' reports reflect the specifics of different linguistic worldviews, problems of language interference, intercultural communication technologies, environmental protection, improvement of construction methods, and many other issues. The best works of the participants are published. Department teachers provide consultations on the design and presentation of reports, hold master classes, etc.
The Center for the Development of Scientific Creativity of BNTU Students "Linguistics and Regional Studies" operates on the basis of the Department of Foreign Languages.
The main tasks of the Center are:
1. Involving students in scientific research work carried out by the teaching staff;
2. Organizing and conducting internal university competitions of student research papers, student scientific conferences, and seminars in the field of the Center's activities;
3. Selecting and nominating students to participate in the Republican Contest of Student Scientific Works in the field of linguistics and regional studies. Every year, the department organizes and conducts events (Foreign Language Olympiad, Week of Foreign Languages and Foreign Cultures, etc.) that stimulate students' interest in learning foreign languages, including Chinese, with the aim of its popularization among the studying youth of BNTU.
