Breakthrough research, bright student victories, new projects and successful international cooperation – the year 2024 at the Belarusian National Technical University was very eventful. From scientific discoveries to the success of students at international competitions, today we share important events at the university that took place in the first half of the outgoing year.
January was marked by a bright sporting start for BNTU students. Maxim Tsaruk performed brilliantly at the World Chess Championship, becoming one of the top three Belarusian players. This success was complemented by Anton Smolsky's golden hat-trick, demonstrating the high level of training of the Polytechnic athletes and their readiness to win the most prestigious competitions.
Speaking about cultural life in the first month of 2024, it is important to mention that Natalia Penyaz, head of the Department of Cultural Affairs at BNTU, was awarded a grant in the field of youth policy for the development of the inter university student film competition “VideoRadius BNTU”.
In addition, according to the decision of the Council of the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the social support of gifted students, scholarships of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the first term of the 2023/24 academic year are awarded monthly to 11 students of BNTU.
February was remembered for many events, including the VII literary and poetic contest "Muse in a technical interior". At BNTU, everyone can reveal their talents, which the contestants did.
In addition, a staff meeting was held in the BSTU Hall of Fame, where the results of the review competition for the best university department for the 2022/23 academic year were summed up. The event was held with the support of the primary trade union organization of BNTU workers.
In the same month, the traditional intellectual game QUIZ TIME BNTU, organized by the NGO "BRSM" with the rights of the RK BNTU, returned to the walls of the Polytechnic. 16 teams took part in the mental competition. The first winners of the BNTU – 2024 QUIZ TIME were students from the Faculty of Marketing, Management, and Entrepreneurship.
March
Spring is a time of awakening and flowering of nature, and at BNTU it is traditionally full of creative events. In early March, the competition "The best BNTU Study Group – 2024" was held. This year, the Faculty of Automotive Engineering presented the best group.
The significant day of the first month of spring was March 23. At 15:36 Moscow time, an important event took place for sovereign Belarus – for the first time in its history, a citizen of the country, Marina Vasilevskaya, flew into space. Millions of eyes watched the epochal moment both online and directly from the Baikonur cosmodrome. Nadezhda Tolstikova, a student of the BNTU Faculty of Transport Communications and the titular Miss Minsk 2023, had the opportunity to see the rocket launch from the scene.
The marathon of creative contests in March was continued by "Mr. BNTU – 2024", where one of the most important intrigues of the spring of 2024 was revealed. After a lot of rehearsals and endless hours of preparation, the participants proved themselves in the finals. According to the results of the online voting "Mr. BNTU ONLINE – 2024", Egor Gainullin became the title holder. Grigory Raketsky became the vice-mister in 2024, and Matvey Melkovich took the most important title – Mr. BNTU – 2024.
At the end of March, the youth of the Polytechnic University had the opportunity to be among the participants of the World Youth Festival in Sochi. The event brought together young people from more than 180 countries around the world: 5,000 volunteers and 20,000 participants, including the best BNTU youth. For six days, the students attended events with the participation of well-known speakers and experts. One of the key events of the festival was the meeting of young people with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
The middle of spring can be safely called the month of beauty, because it was in April that everyone found out how beautiful the girls of the Polytechnic are. First, the final of "Miss BNTU – 2024" was held, in which more than 35 girls participated. It ended with the victory of Daria Velichko, Anastasia Trokhina became the first vice-miss, Anastasia Filipchik became the second.
Later, Anastasia Filipchik represented BNTU at the city stage of the "Queen of Students – 2024" competition, winning the title "Queen of Students of Minsk 2024 – ONLINE".
The gala concert of the BNTU Spring 2024 Student Art Festival was not long in coming either. After four days of competition, the whole hall waited with bated breath for the cherished decision of the jury. Hard work and jewelry training were noted at each faculty, but it was the construction department that took the Grand Prix.
An important event not only for the university, but also for the whole country was the first meeting of the VII All-Belarusian National Assembly (VNS). The honorary right to participate in the large-scale political forum was granted to representatives of BNTU, including BNTU Rector Sergey Kharitonchik, Secretary of the NGO "BRSM" with the rights of the Republic of Kazakhstan BNTU, student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of BNTU Alexey Balysh and Miss Minsk, finalist of the contest "Miss Belarus", student of the Faculty of Transport Communications of BNTU Nadezhda Tolstikova. Students and teachers of the Polytechnic University watched the key event of the country and the President's speech live.
With a slight delay, but no less vividly than in previous years, the international festival "Navruz gathers friends" was held on the territory of the BNTU “Polytechnic” sanatorium. Teams from all countries prepared delicious dishes that were enjoyed by every member of the jury, guest of honor and participant of the festival. The event brought together more than 1,200 people who definitely remembered the eventful celebration for a long time.
Just a few days later, on the eve of Victory Day, a meeting of participants of the XIX International Student Athletics Race took place at the main building of the BNTU. The Polytechnic University prepared an extensive cultural and patriotic program for representatives of Izhevsk State University named after M. T. Kalashnikov and Novosibirsk State Technical University, and when it was time to say goodbye, the guys promised to meet in Izhevsk. By the way, the race will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025.
"The best Student Room of BNTU" is a review competition designed to identify and celebrate the most cozy, stylish and functional rooms of students. So, on May 22, the award ceremony took place. The winner of the review competition in 2024 was room No. 809A of dormitory No. 9 (Diana and Veronica).
The spring season ended with bright victories of the creative teams of the BNTU Department of Cultural Affairs. The Belarusian National Technical University was awarded several awards at once at the gala concert of the Republican Festival of artistic creativity of students and students "Art Vacation - 2024". Each issue that was presented by the university in its creative program was highly appreciated. The BNTU Department of Cultural Affairs became the winner of the main prize.
A solemn ceremony of awarding the organizational structures of the trade union was held at the Republican Palace of Culture of Trade Unions following the results of the review competition for the best staging of mass sports and physical culture and recreation work. The primary trade union organization of BNTU students took first place.
The first month of summer also marked another milestone in the athletic achievements of BNTU students. Maxim Tsaruk, a Belarusian chess player and a student of the Faculty of Information Technology and Robotics, became the winner of the rapid chess competition at the BRICS Sports Games in Kazan.
At the end of June, the republican holiday of graduates of higher educational institutions "Sails of Dreams" was held in the capital. The Belarusian National Technical University was represented at the event by more than 200 outstanding graduates who proved themselves during their studies in science, sports, culture and student life in general. Under the incendiary hits, the guys, not sparing their legs and vocal cords, sang, danced and just enjoyed the holiday.
