From 12 to 16 March in Ufa (Bashkortostan) the final of the Russian Biathlon Cup took place. As part of the national biathlon team of the Republic of Belarus, our student of the PSF Anton Smolsky successfully performed at these competitions, who twice climbed to the highest step of the podium.
Anton confidently held a sprint race together with teammate Dmitry Lazovsky. Results of the men's sprint: 1st place - Anton Smolsky (0 + 1); 2nd place - Dmitry Lazovsky (0+0) +47.8; 6th place - Nikita Lobastov (1+0) +1:08.1.
Also, Anton won the pursuit race, in which the entire podium became Belarusian! He covered the distance of 12.5 km in 35 minutes 32.5 seconds, and despite three misses he won. The second place was taken by Dmitry Lazovsky, and Nikita Lobastov became the bronze medalist.
After the finish, Anton commented on his performance: “I am satisfied with the race, I tried to work on the firing lines, but not everything worked out. The main thing is that he won. After the Olympic Games, we continued to train, preparing for the end of the season, which is why we have such good results.”
In the race with a mass start, Anton made a mistake at the shooting range three times and finished fourth.
As a result of the performance in Ufa, the men's biathlon team of Belarus won six medals.
President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko congratulated the national team of the Republic of Belarus on their triumphant performance at the Cup of the Russian Biathlon Union in Ufa, especially noting the brilliant, victorious races of Anton Smolsky.
The next big start for Anton will be the Russian Championship in Tyumen, which will be held from March 30 to April 3. The competition program includes eight races - sprint, mass start, four relay races (two mixed).
We congratulate Anton on his successful performance and wish him further victories in studies and sports!
