On the 15th of October 2017 at 6 a. m. there was a message in the center of operational  control of Lubanskiy District Division of Emergency about the smoke in the building of swimming pool on the territory of  “Rassvet-Luban” sanatorium of the branch OAO  “Belagrozdravnitsa”. There were 290 people in the sanatorium at that time. Fortunately, one of the holidaymakers was veteran of fire service Alexander Ivanovich Slagoda. He repeatedly took part in firefighting. Due to his professionalism and determination, he managed to avoid the tragedy.

“I woke up at 5:30 in the morning. Approximately at 6 a.m. there was strong slam in the hall and then sound of broken window. I left a room. Nobody was there. I heard moaning of a woman from the 1st flour. Immediately I ran downstairs. A worker of sanatorium was standing there. She was closing face with her arms.” First of all Alexander Ivanovich called to the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES). Before coming of MES veteran-rescuer decided to make his own investigation. But because of the high temperature, strong smoke, large amount of broken glass and other garbage it was impossible. “I ran around Medical block and noticed that all windows were broken.” From those place where was sauna I saw flash fire and black pillars of smoke. I was in this sanatorium Alexander Ivanovich and nurse started to evacuate holidaymakers from the 2nd and 3rd flour. Smoke quickly spread through the building, it was impossible to be slow. Almost everyone was sleeping, but Slagoda together with nurse were knocking every door and were shouting about the fire and that people need to leave the building. “There was one person from Russia who had time to pack his clothes and took them to his car on the parking which was in 2 meters from the building. My wife took her handbag and my wallet. I think she knew what she was doing.” As soon as possible rescuers came. Firefighters localized and then eliminate fire. Except the MES Slagoda also called ambulance.

Who knows what could happen if there was no Alexander Ivanovich among holidaymakers of sanatorium. Such coincidence saved health and maybe lives of many people. This story helps us ensure one more time that profession of rescuer – is a vocation for whole life.
