The history of the Faculty of Instrumentation Engineering (FIE) traces back to its origins at BPI, progressing through BSPA, and eventually to BNTU. It began with the establishment of the Department of Precision Mechanics in 1961 at BPI, under the leadership of the esteemed educator and professor, S.S. Kostyukovich, who served for 23 years.
Responding to the growing demands of the optical industry, the Opto-Mechanical Faculty was founded in 1976. It was successively led by Associate Professors R.I. Tomilin, V.I. Kletsko, and Professor M.G. Kiselev. Further expanding the range of sought-after instrumentation specialties, the Engineering Physics Faculty was established in 1978 at BSPA, with Professor G.S. Kruglik and later Associate Professor A.G. Litvinko at the helm.
In 1984, following the merger of the Opto-Mechanical and Engineering Physics Faculties, the institution was renamed BNTU, and the Engineering Physics Faculty became the Faculty of Instrumentation Engineering the subsequent year.
From 1984 to 1998, Professor M.G. Kiselev, an honored educator in the Republic of Belarus, led the Faculty of Instrumentation Engineering. Subsequent deans included Associate Professor V.I. Shamkalovich, Professor O.K. Gusev, and Professor A.M. Malyarevich. Presently, the faculty is led by Associate Professor A.I. Svistun.
