The 10-year history of the sports and technical faculty of BNTU is inextricably linked with more than 70 years of history of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports. It was on its basis in November 2010 that the first and so far the only faculty in the republic was created, which trains engineering specialists for the sports industry. From the first post-war years to the present day, the department has been writing a bright page of the sports glory of the Polytechnic University. The first who headed the department (the order on its creation was signed by the Ministry of Defense of the USSR in the autumn of 1948) were Evgeny Semenovich Volynets (1948-1952) and Ivan Fedorovich Infantry (1952-1977). The first staff of the department included: O.M. Andryushkina, N.I. Belokryltseva, A.M. Ohrimenko, E.Ya. Orekhova, B.L. Rukhman and O.V. Subsequently, the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of BPI-BGPA-BNTU until 2010 was headed by: N.G. Govorov (1977–1982), I.P. Volkov (1982–1993), L.G. Lavrova (1993–1997), I.V. Belsky (1997–2010). Among those who laid down the traditions of the department and for whom teaching was not only a profession, but also a vocation: Prudnikov I.L., Zumergrad M.A., Dobrovolsky V.A., Nagorny, Markin M.A., Satsukevich N. G., Zhurina O.F., Mushtaler N.A., Nechaeva V.N., Sokol A.T., Garkavenko A.G. and etc.
During the first thirty-year period of its formation (1946-1977), the teaching staff of the department made a huge step in the development of physical culture and sports not only within the walls of the BPI, but also in the republic. At that time, largely on its own, the sports base of the institute was built: from the first sports hall with an area of 18x6 m, small bicycle and ski bases in 1948 to two sports buildings by the beginning of the 80s with specialized halls for sports games, weightlifting, gymnastics , freestyle and classical wrestling, boxing, a ski base for 1000 pairs of skis, a bike base for 50 bicycles and a shooting range. And if in 1950 at the Polytechnic Institute there were 13 sections for sports, in which a little more than 400 students were involved, then in 1977, 30 sports were already developing at the institute, and 7,000 students were covered by systematic physical exercises. It is no coincidence that back in 1954, at the first All-Belarusian Student Spartakiad, the BPI team took first place. This victorious tread is still maintained by the Polytechnic University. In those years, a lot of very strong athletes came out of the walls of the institute, who became champions and record holders for competitions of the highest rank. First of all, this is the legendary BPI graduate of 1962 Tatyana Samusenko - three-time Olympic champion in 1960, 1968, 1972. in the team championship in foil fencing, five-time world champion in 1963, 1965, 1966, 1970. in the team foil and 1966 in the individual championship, winner of the European Cup in 1967, 1969, eight-time champion of the USSR.
At the same time, in those distant years, not only students, but also teachers of the first galaxy, who spoke for the “Science” society, became repeated winners and prize-winners of competitions of various ranks. So in 1952, a teacher, and later an honored coach of the BSSR, Plashinsky A.V. won the All-Union competition of the society "Nauka" in cycling, became the champion of the BSSR in skiing. Teacher Andryushkina-Spiridonova O.M. became the champion of the society "Science" in pentathlon. Over the years, Zhurina O.F., Mushtaler N.A., Nechaeva V.N., Panteleev V.S., Garkovenko A.G., Khrapakova T.S., Novik L.N. ., Vorona G.K. and many others.
The main feature of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the BPI during its formation was the emergence of more than 18 strongest schools in sports, which, thanks to their achievements, became famous far beyond the borders of the republic, glorifying both their native university and the country. These are the main sports schools: chess (1946), cycling (1949), skiing (1949), volleyball (1848), basketball (1948), football (1948), gymnastics and acrobatics (1948), handball (handball) for men and women (1956), orienteering (1962), boxing (1963), power sports (1966), alpine skiing (1966), sambo (until 1976), judo (1976), weightlifting, swimming (1971), table tennis (70s), tourism (1975), etc.
The oldest of them dates back to 1946, when the BPI under the leadership of L.M. Angelovich, a chess section was opened. It was from this school that the following came out: the champion of the BSSR in chess among women G. Archakova (1960); four-time world champion among students in the team competition A. Kopengut (1964,1966,1968,1970); champion team of BPI chess players among the universities of the BSSR consisting of B.Shuster, Yu.Kulaga, L.Basin, L.Kuripko, L.Yakimenko.
The cycling section at the university was established in 1949. Its founder was A. V. Plashchinsky, Master of Sports of the USSR, multiple champion and prize-winner of the BSSR in skiing and cycling. Subsequently, this section turned into the famous Anton Plashinsky cycling school, which dominated the Republic for a long time and gained fame abroad. From among the students, the trainer-teacher prepared 5 masters of international class, 40 masters of sports of the USSR. At the championships of the Union and the sports days of the peoples of the USSR, students of the university won 6 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals.
Since the 1950s, team sports have been rapidly developing at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute. Immediately after the war and for many years, an order bearer, one of the first masters of sports of the USSR in volleyball M.A. worked at the institute. Zummergrad, who is rightfully considered one of the patriarchs of volleyball not only in the BPI, but also in the republic. The BPI men's volleyball team led by M.A. Zummergard repeatedly became the winner of the Spartakiad of the universities of the republic. Since 1971, the first BPI men's volleyball team was coached by Ye.A. The volleyball school of the Polytechnic University gave a ticket to the big sport to many young talented athletes: A. In 1951, another front-line soldier, teacher of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports A. M. Akhrimenko recruited a basketball section and from the first year of formation to 1956, the BPI team became the champion and winner of the championship of the universities of the BSSR. In 1966-1967. Honored coach of the BSSR B.A. Gukov and one of the first masters of sports of the USSR (1961) A.G. Garkavenko came to coaching and teaching work at the BPI. In 1972, under the guidance of playing coach A.G. Garkavenko, the BPI team won the BSSR Cup, defeating the SKA major league team in the final.
The Polytechnic University has its origins in the school of men's handball, which is associated with a qualitative leap in the development of Belarusian handball. In 1960, the teacher V. ADobrovolsky created the Polytechnic club on the basis of the BPI, which became the progenitor of the Minsk SKA. Already in 1961, the "Polytechnic" won the first draw of the championship of the republic. For many years, the team performed with dignity in the elite division of the Allied Championship. For sixteen years, from among the students V.A.Dobrovolsky at the "Polytechnic" has grown a galaxy of worthy handball players (Y.Fokin, R.Akopov, A.Grechin, V.Zhadan, Y.Nikitenko, N.Boyko, V.Krainev, A.Melanin , Yu.Shinkarev, P.Kuyavsky). In 1976, the Polytechnic was renamed SKA, which was headed by S. Mironovich, a former player and captain of the Polytechnic team.
This period includes the formation and development of the BPI football school, when I.L. Prudnikov came to work at the university. A front-line soldier, an enthusiast of his work, until 1979 he headed the institute's team. In the 60-70s. More than 50 teams participated in the Polytechnic football championship. The BPI team led by Igor Leonidovich became the winner of not only republican, but also all-Union competitions of various ranks. Members of the national football team of those years were D. Kukui, N. Novitsky, M. I. Fursanov.
The legendary coach-teacher of the BPI, Honored Coach of the USSR and the Republic of Belarus S.A. Gumanov became the founder of the Belarusian judo school not only in the Polytechnic University, but throughout the country. His first students R. Mashkovsky, V. Matys, V. Kostyuk, G. Belko, V. Pasko, V. Yatsuta, A. Lukashevich, V. Matsuk already in the 60s repeatedly became champions and prize-winners of the republic, the All-Union Student society "Petrel", the championship of the USSR, and in 1972 the BPI team became the first at the All-Union Student Universiade.
The boxing school at the BPI is inextricably linked with the name of its inspirer, senior teacher L.V. Romanenko, a participant in the Second World War, an order bearer, an honored coach of the BSSR, a judge of the all-Union category. From 1963 to 1991 The boxing team of the Institute under his leadership participated in the Olympics of the BSSR universities, almost always taking 1st and 2nd places.
The beginning of the development of weightlifting in the BPI can be attributed to 1966 with the advent of the USSR Master of Sports, champion of the All-Union Championship DSO "Harvest" G.K. Voron. The winning traditions of the Polytechnic University in power sports were laid by another master of sports in weightlifting, I.V. Belsky. Under his leadership, the BPI team repeatedly won the championship of the BSSR universities in weightlifting, arm wrestling, powerlifting. Belsky I.V. trained 3 masters of sports of international class, 26 masters of sports. Among his students are 8 champions and prize-winners of the world, Europe in arm wrestling and powerlifting: P. Poltoran, O. Gusev, V. Bardiyan, I. Verbilo, I. Belousov, A. Romankov.
It should be noted that almost all sports developed at that time in the republic begin to be cultivated in the BPI.
The second period - the period of development of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports (1978-2010) is characterized by the improvement of the educational process in the discipline "Physical Culture", the strengthening of the teaching staff by highly qualified specialists, the successful preparation of student-athletes for competitions of the republican and international levels, and the improvement of their sports qualifications. , expansion and significant strengthening of the sports base, the creation of a coherent system of physical culture and health and sports activities among students and employees of the university. The department has become one of the largest departments of physical culture and sports in our republic, and in 2005, together with support staff, there were about 160 employees. It was the time of real professionals, such as: Plashchinsky A.V., Bobkova D.A., Kalatsky A.A., Kravchenko V.N., Martynov Yu.M., Polyak D.A., Sudnik I.B., Smolekova V.N., Shayuk A.S., Antsiporovich S.M., Burenkova N.N., Glybovsky I.I., Karpova M. A., Kornienko L.I., Platonova L.M., Panteleev V.S., Rosso E.D., Slapenina S.V., Smolekova V.N., Torshina L.A., Khrapakova T.S. and many, many others. A huge team provided compulsory physical education classes for more than 15 thousand students in 1-4 courses of all faculties. A feature of the organization of the educational process in physical culture was the formation of permanent teaching teams of teachers at faculties, where training groups are assigned to teachers for the entire period of study, with the appointment of a person responsible for mass sports work from among the most experienced highly qualified teachers to each faculty. At this time, a number of teachers defended dissertations for the degree of candidate of science (Platonova L.M., Belsky I.V.) and doctor of science (Belsky I.V., Volkov I.P., Skripko A.D.). In 2002 IV Belsky was awarded the academic title of professor. By this time, the sports base of the university was significantly expanded: 3 sports buildings with 18 sports halls, a stadium, a fifty-meter deep-water pool, 10 outdoor sports grounds, a sports and amenity complex, sports rooms in hostels. In strengthening the material and technical support of the educational and training process of students, an important role belongs to the educational sports and recreation center (USOC), established in 1996.
New sports schools appeared: health-improving aerobics (1984) and sports (1998), shotokan karate-do (1989), freestyle, Thai boxing, wushu (2002)
A new generation of student-athletes continued the winning traditions of the Polytechnic University. And above all - E.Ksendzhik, champion of the 1992 Olympic Games in basketball, European champion in 1989, handball player S. Minevskaya - two-time world champion in 1990, 1992, S. Borisenko, prize-winner of the world boxing championship. E. Gerasimchik, A. Ten - champions, winners of the world and European championships in karate-do. I.Verbilo - winner of the World Championship in arm wrestling. A. Kazakevich is a participant of the World Sambo Championship. G. Moroz - bronze medalist of the World Championships in athletics, participant of the Olympics in Athens. S.Usovich and I.Usovich are participants of the Athens and Beijing Olympic Games and many others.
One cannot but admire the fact that in 1999 BSPA students won 4 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze medals at world championships and cups, 1 gold, 5 silver and 10 bronze medals at European championships and cups, at republican championships, cups, youth championships and student games - 20 first, 23 second and 20 third places.
A new period in the development of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports was marked by the formation in 2010 on its basis of the Sports and Technical Faculty (STF). Thus, the idea of combining sports - science - engineering came to life at BNTU.
