V.K. Sheleg, born in 1946, Belarusian, member of the Belarusian Public Association "Belaya Rus". In 1969 he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute and worked as a designer in a special design bureau for automatic lines. Since September 1972 he has worked at the Belarusian State Scientific and Production Concern of Powder Metallurgy (formerly the Research Institute of Powder Metallurgy, then the Belarusian Republican Scientific and Production Association of Powder Metallurgy), where he worked his way up from senior engineer to general director.
Since June 2005, he has been working as the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology at the Belarusian National Technical University.
In 1978, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences, in 1988 - for the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences. In 1991, he was awarded the academic title of Professor, in 2001 - the title of Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus. In 2014, he was elected a Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. V.K. Sheleg is a well-known scientist in the field of mechanical engineering technology, materials science, powder metallurgy, welding and protective coatings.
For the research and development of new heat exchangers with capillary structures and their introduction into industry, V.K. Sheleg, as part of a team of authors, was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize of Belarus in 1978, and in 1980 - the State Prize of the BSSR for the development and introduction into the national economy of new porous materials and products based on metal powders. In 1987, V.K. Sheleg was awarded the Prize of the USSR Council of Ministers for the development and introduction into the national economy of permeable materials with high performance properties, and in 1997 - the Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for the monograph "Theory and Practice of Electric Pulse Sintering of Porous Powder Materials".
In recent years, Sheleg V.K. has been leading a scientific school in the field of theory and practice of controlling the formation of surface quality of parts during mechanical processing, including those made from metal powders. With his direct participation and under his scientific leadership, a series of works was carried out to study the surface quality and performance of machine parts in the process of needle milling, electro-pulse polishing of corrosion-resistant and carbon structural steels, and on the basis of theoretical research, devices were developed that provide stable chip breaking at vibration points at vibration points.
The results of V.K. Sheleg's scientific activities are reflected in 798 published works, including 27 monographs and 228 scientific articles.
V.K. Sheleg's practical developments are protected by more than 280 copyright certificates and patents.
V.K. Sheleg conducts extensive scientific and organizational work. He was a member of the commission on state scientific and technical policy under the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus, was a member of the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus, chairman of the State Expert Council of the State Committee for Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, chairman of the Expert Council of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, is the editor-in-chief of the Republican Interdepartmental Collection of Scientific Works "Mechanical Engineering", and is also a member. On his initiative, 4 branches of the department were created at RUE "MTZ", RUE "MZKTs", at the Institute of Technical Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Under his leadership, 10 candidates and 5 doctors of technical sciences were trained.
Awarded honorary diplomas from the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Higher Attestation Commission, the State Committee for Science and Technology, the badge "For Merit in Standardization", in 2007 he was awarded a personal bonus from the President of the Republic of Belarus for outstanding contribution to socio-economic development.
