On December 5, 2013, at the Headquarters of the Confucius Institutes (Beijing), an Agreement was signed on the establishment of the Confucius Institute for Science and Technology on the basis of the Belarusian National Technical University.
On October 21, 2014, the opening of the Confucius Institute for Science and Technology of the Belarusian National Technical University took place in Minsk.

Northeast University of China (NWU), founded in 1923, reports directly to the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. The SVU is located in Shenyang City, the capital of Liaoning Province.
The BNTU Confucius Institute performs the following functions:
- teaching Chinese for specialists in engineering and technology, with the provision of the necessary educational resources for this;
- teaching Chinese to Belarusian teachers in a training program with a component of "technical terminology";
- assistance to the Center for International Language Exchange and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China in organizing examinations for the level of knowledge of the Chinese language (HSK) and for the knowledge of Chinese language teachers in technical terminology;
- dissemination of information about Chinese education, culture, economy, science, technology and innovation, social structure, providing information about studying in China;
- carrying out activities aimed at strengthening intercultural dialogue and cooperation in the field of education, science and innovation between the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China, including the organization of scientific and practical conferences, seminars, exhibitions, scientific symposiums, exchange of specialists, internships for teachers and scientists, holding cultural - educational events
- teaching Chinese on a paid basis on the basis of concluded agreements.
