Who is an electric and gas welder and what do they do?

An electric and gas welder is a versatile specialist skilled in several welding methods. They join metal parts and structures using an electric arc (manual arc welding), a gas flame, and semiautomatic equipment in a protective gas environment. Such specialists are in demand at construction sites, industrial facilities, in housing and utilities, auto repair shops, and during pipeline installation.

What a welder should know and be able to do:

  • Manual arc welding, gas welding and cutting, carbon dioxide welding, and argon welding.
  • Properties of metals and alloys, reading drawings and welding symbols.
  • Rules for preparing parts for welding and weld quality control.
  • Occupational health and safety, electrical safety, and fire safety during welding.

How the courses are structured

The program is designed to provide maximum useful knowledge and prepare you for real-world work in production:

Theoretical section:

Materials science and steel classification.

The design and operating principles of welding equipment (transformers, rectifiers, inverters, gas torches, semiautomatic machines).

Manual arc welding with coated electrodes.

Gas welding and cutting of metals.

Welding in a shielded gas environment (CO₂, argon).

Reading drawings and welding diagrams.

Occupational health and safety.

Practical training at the employer's company:

The practical part of the course is organized according to a proven model: you complete it at the company where you plan to work.

Why this is reasonable and convenient for you:

  1. You learn in a real production environment. From day one, you work with the same equipment, metal, and types of structures used at a specific company.
  2. You immediately get into a real work rhythm. You see real tasks, production standards, and quality requirements—you adapt to them even before receiving your qualifications.
  3. You save time during your internship. The employer sees your welds and knows for sure that you are ready for independent work. Essentially, your internship immediately transitions into a shift.
  4. You are assigned to a permanent position. The company is interested in you, and you are interested in them—by the time you receive your BNTU Institute certificate, you are already part of the team.

Duration and awarded qualifications

We offer electric and gas welder courses with qualifications ranging from 2rd to 5th.

  • Training from scratch to level 2: 3 months and up. You'll master basic welding techniques and gain certification for simple and medium-complexity work.
  • Advanced training for levels 4 and 5: for welders who already hold a level and wish to advance to the next level. Duration: 2 weeks and up.

Please contact the BNTU Institute for the exact cost and duration of training. These costs are calculated based on the selected level and training format.

What you receive

After successfully passing the qualification exam, you receive a state-approved certificate confirming your qualification level.
It clearly states: the educational institution is the BNTU Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Personnel in New Areas of Engineering, Technology, and Economics, and the level of electric and gas welder you have been assigned.

This certificate is valid throughout Belarus and serves as official confirmation of your qualifications to any employer.
