The Department of Engineering Graphics was established at the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute in 1933. The first head of the department was Kessel N.K.
In 1974, there was a division of the department into two, respectively, mechanical engineering and construction profile. The latter became part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. After the division of the department, the duties of the head of the department were performed by:
from 1974 to 1977 - candidate of technical sciences, associate professor Shinkevich N.I.;
from 1977 to 1988 - art. teacher Petrovich M.N.;
from 1988 to 2009 - candidate of technical sciences, senior researcher, associate professor Tarasov V.V.;
from 2009 to 2022 - Ph.D., senior researcher, associate professor Shubert I.M.
Currently - Sadovskaya E.A.
A great contribution to the formation and development of the department was made by N.I. Shinkevich, S.A. Bloh, A.N. Tereshkin, M.N. Petrovich, L.S. Ivanova, Z.I. Aleksandrovich, V.V. Tarasov. So Associate Professor Bloch S.A. brilliantly lectured on Belarusian television, this course was published as a separate book, included in the gold fund of the department. Odelskaya I.N. taught a specialized course in descriptive geometry at the Faculty of Architecture, which ensured a very high level of training for future architects in graphic disciplines. Shinkevich N.I., Tereshkin A.N., Ivanova L.S. developed original tasks for engineering architectural and construction graphics and provided organizational and methodological support for this section. Petrovich M.N. made a great contribution to the improvement of the educational process in descriptive geometry and engineering graphics. Under the leadership of Z.I. Aleksandrovich in the 90s of the last century developed a course of descriptive geometry with elements of programmed education for students of construction specialties and published a methodological manual in three parts. Somewhat later, V.V. Tarasov, E.A. Teleshem, I.M. Schubert, Yu.I. Sadovsky developed new tasks and the original manual "Drawings of a one-story industrial building", as well as a reference and methodological manual "Normal control of course and diploma projects". With the development of computer technology, a section of computer graphics has been introduced into the educational process. Yu.I. Sadovsky, I.M. Schubert and others developed laboratory work and teaching aids for their implementation. A.A. Selitsky made a great contribution to the methodological support of the “Technical Drawing” section - these are individual tasks corresponding to the specifics of the future specialty, as well as the developed methodological manuals. The department • has constantly paid • and is giving priority attention to maintaining the traditionally high level of students' training in grapho-geometric disciplines.
There are 10 highly qualified teachers at the Department of Engineering Graphics of the Construction Profile, whose main goal is to teach students of construction specialties the international language of communication between engineers - the construction of images based on the classical theory of descriptive geometry. An increase in the volume of capital construction in the share of unique buildings, structures, complexes, such as concert halls, sports, shopping facilities, business centers, bridges, tunnels, energy construction facilities requires new approaches in the development of project documentation and, first of all, working drawings and spatial models with using modern technologies for creating, processing and storing graphic information. The department is a developer of standard programs for the discipline “Descriptive geometry. Engineering and machine graphics” for higher educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus in the direction of education 70 Construction. The educational process is carried out according to the sections of the course "Descriptive geometry", "Engineering graphics", "Computer graphics", "Technical drawing" at the following faculties: construction, military-technical, energy construction, transport communications and engineering and pedagogical. Training is conducted in specialized classrooms, and the study of computer graphics - in a specialized computer class, based on the latest versions of the AutoCAD system. construction, military-technical, energy construction, transport communications and engineering and pedagogical. The staff of the department develop and introduce into the educational process methodological, reference manuals, lecture courses, new individual tasks and laboratory work on computer graphics, methodological maps, visual information stands, electronic presentations on certain topics.
The department is actively involved in the process of professional development, both of its teachers and employees of other educational institutions of the Republic of Belarus. Scientific and pedagogical contacts have been established with a number of universities of the Republic of Belarus.
