The scientific school of the department operates within the framework of the Information Center "QUALITY" and SNIL "QUALITY".
Main directions of scientific activity:
Metrology and metrological support
1. Designing accuracy standards for mechanical products (instruments, fixtures, units, machines, (precision synthesis or "Toler-ance design").
2. Metrological examination of technical documentation, substantiation and choice of methods and means of measurement, including non-standard ones.
3. Turnkey development of non-standardized measuring instruments and measurement methods.
4. Turnkey development of methods for estimating the uncertainty of various types of measurements and tests based on the process approach.
• Preparation of detailed reports on the uncertainty of the measurement process (including budget).
• Automation of the uncertainty estimation process.
Technical regulation and standardization
1. Formation of the structure of the system of technical regulation and standardization in relation to the subject area or specific activities of the organization on the principles of the process approach using the risk management model.
2. Creation of an information system for managing the document flow of an organization as a knowledge base based on ontologies.
3. Turnkey development of TNLA (STB, TCH, STP, etc.)
At present, the scientific school of the department has initiated and successfully develops a number of promising fundamental areas of scientific research:
• the concept of managing the system of technical regulation and standardization based on the principles of the process approach using the risk management model;
• the concept of development of standardization as a knowledge base based on ontologies;
• development of CALS-technologies for the transition to paperless electronic technology for the design, manufacture and marketing of science-intensive products.
Quality management (organizational and technical component)
1. Methodology for describing the network of QMS processes using a modular approach and its implementation in the organization.
2. Methodology for evaluating and managing the effectiveness of QMS processes based on functional cost analysis and its implementation in the organization.
3. A methodology for creating a system for collecting and analyzing quantitative data using a modular approach and its implementation in an organization.
4. Methodology for creating an ontological model of the QMS for managing non-numerical data used in the process of auditing the QMS and its implementation in the organization.
5. The methodology of the decision support system in relation to the quality of products and processes using a modular approach and its implementation in the organization.
6. Methods of robust design of production processes (by analogy with the methods of G. Taguchi) and its implementation in the organization.
For the achievements in the field of scientific research and methodological support in the field of metrology, standardization and quality management, the staff of the department has awards:
• Certificates of honor from the State Standard, the Belarusian National Technical University, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Architecture and Construction, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.
• The highest distinguishing marks of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus "Excellent student of higher education",
• The highest distinguishing marks of the State Standard "For merits in standardization".
• personal allowances of the President of the Republic of Belarus for an outstanding contribution to the socio-economic development of the republic.
The powerful creative scientific, methodological potential of the staff of the department is used in the work of the editorial boards of 5 scientific and practical journals, 3 national technical committees for standardization, the Educational and Methodological Association of Higher Educational Institutions of the Republic of Belarus for education in the field of quality, the Scientific and Methodological Commission of the Ministry of Education, Scientific and Technical commissions of the State Standard, the doctoral council for the defense of dissertations and the expert council of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Belarus.
In order to stimulate the development of higher education in standardization, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2007 established the Prize and organized a competition for the best training program in the field of standardization and quality management in higher education institutions of the world. The Department of SMIS, declared by the State Standard of the Republic of Belarus, twice in 2009 and 2011 became the finalist of this competition - the SECOND position (and the first position among technical universities).
SNIL "QUALITY", its leader and 4 students became Laureates in various nominations of the special fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for the social support of gifted youth.
In the period 2012-2025 46 students won the first category or became laureates of the prestigious Republican competition of scientific works of students. In the same period, 10 best graduation and research papers in the field of quality became laureates of the annual award of the Government of the Republic of Belarus in the field of quality in the corresponding nomination.
The team of students of the department has won three times the International Olympiad in Management among Youth within the framework of the Global Project “Youth Creative Movement “QUALITY RELAY”, conducted by the International Guild of Quality Professionals. Moreover, both the first team places and the first places in the individual competition were won.
Also, the team of the department won three times in the Republican Management Olympiad, held by the State Committee for Standardization of the Republic of Belarus, in the team and individual competitions.
