The Department of Hydraulic and Energy Construction, Water Transport and Hydraulics has existed under this name since February 11, 2019 on the basis of the order of the rector and was obtained by combining the Department of Hydraulic and Energy Construction and the Department of Shipbuilding and Hydraulics, which are one of the the oldest at the university and originate in 1920.
Students are trained in accordance with modern international requirements and standards, taking into account the peculiarities of the Republic of Belarus.
The department has the material base: the largest unique laboratory of hydraulic structures in the republic, hydraulic laboratories, a specialized cabinet for nuclear power construction with models of nuclear power plants, modern computer classes, interactive whiteboards with projectors. The laboratories of the department are adapted for modeling the operation of all types of dams, a shipping lock, for studying wave effects on structures, the operation of turbines and pumps. At the channel site, large-scale open-flow research is being carried out. The department traditionally pays great attention to scientific research. In different years, such well-known structures as a water slalom channel and a flood spillway on the river were modeled on the channel site. Birds that are successfully exploited to this day were "washed" spillway dams of the Grodno and Polotsk hydroelectric power stations, in a wide tray, the destruction of the dam in the undermined territory was modeled. Trays and installations in laboratories are used by students during training sessions, graduate students and undergraduates - for dissertation experiments, teachers - when performing both budgetary and contractual research work. Scientific directions of the department:
Since January 2018, the department has registered and operates a scientific school in the field of development and creation of high-energy processes of high-speed metalworking and high-pressure hydrojet multifunctional technologies based on reversible helical and two-phase flows (supervisor prof., Doctor of Technical Sciences I.V. Kachanov) .
The students of the department are actively involved in the implementation of research and contractual work at the department "GESVTiG". They take an active part in patent and invention work, annually make presentations at the SNTK BNTU, take part in republican and international competitions. 25 students and undergraduates of the department were awarded prizes of the Presidential Fund of the Republic of Belarus, 6 people became laureates of international and republican SRRS competitions, were awarded diplomas: "Excellent student of SRRS", "Activist of SRRS".
In different years, well-known specialists in the field of hydraulic engineering construction taught at the department: Doroshevich M.V., Shestopalov O.S., Vinokurov F.P., Peryshkin G.A., Shimko K.I., Filippovich I.V., Minaev I.V., Levkevich E.M., Rogunovich V.P., Kudryavtsev P.I., Kovalev Ya.T., Lazarevich I.G., Kozlov D.A. and others. The department has experience in teaching abroad - at the universities of Cuba (Prof. Minaev I.V.), Tunisia (Associate Professor Kruglov G.G.). Guinea (Prof. Kachanov I.V., Assoc. Prof. Zakernichny V.I.). The department maintains scientific and creative relations with colleagues outside the republic.
The department has trained more than 3000 specialists for 34 countries of the far and 14 countries of the near abroad, working in various sectors of the water industry (hydropower, land reclamation, shipbuilding, etc.). Among the graduates of the department there are 15 honored builders and land reclamators of the republic. 38 graduates took part in the construction of the most important hydrotechnical facilities in Cuba, Mongolia, Syria, Nigeria, Algeria, Iraq, Vietnam, Tunisia, Egypt. Many graduates of the department have worked and are working in senior positions in Belarus and the CIS countries:
Graduates of the department defended 6 doctoral and 115 master's theses. Among the graduates there are academicians and corresponding members of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus, VASKhNiL, etc. Under the guidance of teachers of the department, not only domestic applicants defended their Ph.D. dissertations, but also more than ten foreign citizens from Bulgaria, Laos, Egypt, Afghanistan, Guinea, Colombia, Panama, Nepal and Ghana.
