The Department of Physics was founded in 1930 and is one of the oldest departments of the university.
The department brings together specialists who simultaneously conduct pedagogical, methodological and research work in a certain field of science and technology, as well as ideological and educational work among students.
The department conducts scientific, research, educational and educational-methodical work corresponding to the profile of the department in priority areas of scientific research of BNTU for 2021-2025, considered and approved at a joint meeting of the BNTU Council and the Academic Council of BNTU, which are included in the list of priority areas of scientific studies of the Republic of Belarus for 2021-2025, approved by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated May 7, 2020 No. 156.
The department is general education and its main goal is to ensure the high quality of the educational process in the disciplines assigned to the department, corresponding to the standard curriculum for technical universities. The level of competence of the department's employees meets the modern requirements of the National Accreditation System of the Republic of Belarus.
Teachers of the department systematically take part in various international scientific and practical conferences, congresses in the countries of near and far abroad. They publish articles, scientific reports, abstracts in scientific publications of domestic and foreign universities and other scientific centers. Annually draw up and submit at least three patents to the National Center for Intellectual Property of the Republic of Belarus.
According to the results of research, the employees of the department carry out active publishing activities. Over the past 5 years, the number of publications of the department has amounted to more than 150. In particular: 1 textbook with the stamp of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, 3 textbooks with the stamp of BNTU, 3 educational and methodological complexes, 64 scientific articles and 19 patents. Three textbooks have been developed and published for conducting practical classes in the course of general physics, taking into account the ten-point system for assessing knowledge, which can significantly increase the effectiveness of training at the present stage. More than twenty electronic publications have been introduced into the educational process.
The department conducts scientific research and develops in the following areas: "Nanotechnology as an innovative component in the information and software of the educational process in universities", "Perspective alternative sources of electricity based on photo- and thermovoltaics, providing both separately and jointly direct conversion of light and heat into electricity", "Converters of electromagnetic radiation, including the highly informative range, located between the microwave microwave and mid-infrared optical regions based on fiber optics, semiconductor materials, ferroelectric ceramics and artificial media, the so-called metamaterials".
The department is modernizing equipment to ensure the educational process, scientific and scientific and technical activities. The educational base includes the laboratories of mechanics, thermodynamics and molecular physics, the laboratories of electricity, magnetism and optics, the laboratories of atomic and nuclear physics, the laboratory of scientific research, the laboratory for designing and setting up equipment for physical experiments, as well as the laboratory for numerical simulation of physical processes.
Students actively participate in research work under the guidance of teachers of the department, prepare scientific reports for participation in scientific and practical conferences, round tables. Over the past 5 years, more than 10 students have become winners of student research papers competitions.
Employees of the department organize the methodological and material support of the educational process, the preparation of textbooks, teaching aids, the development of educational and methodological materials for conducting all types of training sessions. Every year, 2-3 new or improved laboratory works are introduced into the physical workshop.
The department carries out educational, methodical and research work at 5 faculties: FES, FGDIE, FTUG, SF, FTK in the academic discipline "Physics". During the year, about 5,000 full-time and part-time students are trained at the department. Qualified teachers conduct lectures, laboratory, practical, seminars and other classes at a high scientific and methodological level, provided for by the curricula for students of all forms of education. The department includes professors, associate professors, senior lecturers, assistants, as well as scientific, engineering, technical and educational support staff.
The department has a total of 13 employees, including 7 faculty members, of whom 1 holds a Doctor of Science degree, 4 hold Candidate of Science degrees, and 1 holds a Master of Science degree.
