The department takes part in the fulfillment of tasks of state programs of various levels and the BRFFR. Over the past 5 years, 6 R&D projects have been completed. Within the framework of the second half of the working day of the teaching staff, 2 research projects were completed.
Employees of the department conduct research and development in BNTU and the system of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus in the areas of "Integration of information and educational technologies in the study of physics in a technical university", "Dielectric, piezoelectric, superconducting ceramic materials, conditions for their production, structure, properties", " Spatial-temporal microheterogeneity in dynamic systems”, “Physics of open systems”, “Research of physical processes in engineering systems based on numerical simulation software packages”. Kuzhir P.G. is a member of the expert council of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus. The department carries out work on the expert evaluation of textbooks submitted for assignment of the stamp of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.
In the national economy, the results of three R&D were used, and in the educational process - two R&D. 2 methods for defect control and 3 methods for obtaining new ceramic materials have been developed, 9 new ceramic materials have been created, for which patents have been obtained. In total, over the past 5 years, employees of the department have received 28 patents of the Republic of Belarus for inventions. The introduction of developments is carried out within the framework of the tasks of state programs, reflected in 27 acts of introducing the results of research into the educational process.
The department cooperates with the State Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Materials Science, the State Scientific Institution “Institute of Physics. B.I. Stepanov National Academy of Sciences of Belarus”, Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics.
Student research work is carried out by full-time students and organized by teachers of the department on an individual basis. The level of research tasks varies from the collection and analysis of information on a specific scientific problem to the performance of independent calculations, generalizations and formulation of conclusions. The main task of the teacher in this case is to teach the student not only to work with scientific and technical literature, to independently perform the task, but also to present the results obtained in the correct scientific style and convey them to the audience, which, as a rule, is carried out in the form of writing abstracts of reports and in speeches at conferences.
The department annually holds a student scientific and technical conference, as well as the work of the section "Innovative technologies in the development of natural sciences and modern education" of the BNTU international conference "Innovative technologies in water, utilities and water transport." The most significant for science and practice results of student research work are reported and published in the materials of various scientific and technical conferences held both in the Republic of Belarus and abroad. Over the past 5 years, employees of the department in collaboration with students published 28 works. Every year, students' research papers are submitted to the Republican competition, where the papers receive diplomas of 2nd and 3rd degrees.
Prospects for the development of research and scientific research, the department primarily connects with the development of the material and technical base for scientific research.
