The Department of Thermal Power Plants has been operating since 1946, originally named "Boiler and Thermal Power Installations". It was founded by Associate Professor G.I. Dobkin, Associate Professor E.A. Kuzovnikova from the Ural Polytechnic Institute, and Senior Lecturer Y.P. Kuzmin.
Over time, the department was renamed to its current title, "Department of Thermal Power Plants." From 1957 to 1976, it was led by Professor A.M. Leonkov, a distinguished energy expert who established a school of highly skilled educators.
Throughout different periods, the department was headed by G.I. Khutsky, A.D. Kachan, and G.T. Kulakov, each contributing significantly to the development and success of the department.
Since 1987, the department has been under the leadership of Dr. N.B. Karnitsky, a professor with a Doctor of Technical Sciences degree.

Kashcheev presented their papers at colloquia in Dresden Technical University. Dr. A.P. Borushko represented our republic at the United Nations for many years.
Practically all specialized disciplines taught at the department are supported by educational laboratories, including those for automatic control of thermal power processes, thermotechnical measurements, steam and gas turbines, boilers and power plants, water treatment and water chemistry regimes of thermal and nuclear power plants, computer systems, and simulation setups. The laboratory equipment includes original stands.
The department educates future engineers in three specialties, details of which are outlined in the "Specialties" section.
Over the years, the Department of Thermal Power Stations has graduated over 3,100 power engineers, including 168 foreign specialists from 18 countries such as Vietnam, Syria, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Jordan, and others.
Graduates of the department have contributed significantly to the country's main industry, energy, and various other sectors. Among them are prominent scientists: Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Dr. G.A. Anisovich; Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Dr. V.A.
