The department "Design and production of devices" was organized in June 1984 on the basis of the departments "Instruments of precision mechanics" and the department "Technology of production of devices". At that time, the staff of the department consisted of seven teachers, and it carried out training of engineering personnel in one specialty "Precision mechanics devices", which a little later, in connection with the introduction of a new list of specialties in the republic, was transformed into the specialty "Mechanical and electromechanical devices and apparatus" with the qualification graduate electrical engineer. At the same time, within the framework of this specialty, training of young specialists was started in four specializations: “Control and measuring devices and systems”, “Household machines, devices and equipment”, “Biotechnical and medical devices and systems” and “Technology of precision instrumentation”.
The most active stage in the development of the department falls on the mid-90s, which is associated with the opening of two new specialties on the basis of already tested specializations. These are “Biotechnical and medical devices and systems” and “Technology and equipment for jewelry production”. Thus, the department began to train young specialists in three specialties and two specializations within the framework of the specialty "Mechanical and electromechanical devices and apparatuses".
At this historical period, the staff of the department carried out a huge purposeful work on the educational, methodological and logistical support of the educational process in these specialties. The teachers (by this time their staff of the department amounted to 15 people) prepared and mastered new lecture courses in the relevant academic disciplines. Only in the 21st century the department published 50 teaching aids.
Computer modeling is widely used in laboratory work and lecture courses, allowing students to visualize complex physical and technological processes. So, when performing laboratory work on the discipline "Instruments, apparatus and complexes of clinical diagnostics, therapy and surgery", students using the MathCad program simulate the process of propagation of Lamb ultrasonic waves in the cortical layer of the bone, and using the ANSYS finite element modeling program, oscillations of a stepped ultrasonic concentrator surgical instrument.
The methodology of course and diploma design is being improved.
There is a constant updating and modernization of the laboratory base of the department. Over the past three years, thanks to the policy pursued by the leadership of the instrument-making faculty for the effective and concentrated use of financial resources, an educational laboratory for the discipline "Drive in instrumentation" has been created. Similarly, the training laboratory for the discipline "Automation and automation of production processes" was modernized.
Enterprises and organizations that are consumers of our young specialists have provided and continue to provide great practical assistance to the department in equipping the laboratory base. These are the Belarusian State Institute of Metrology, institutions and organizations of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, including the Prosthetic and Orthopedic Center and many other instrument-making enterprises and organizations.
