From 2021 to 2025, the state budget research topic "Mathematical modeling and development of algorithms for physical and physico-mathematical problems of instrumentation" is being carried out at the department.
In 2016-2020 the educational and methodical topic GB 16-244 "Development of scientific problems and methodological foundations of the theory of nonlinear problems and the creation of EUMC for the study of mathematics, applied mathematics and computer science by students of engineering specialties of technical universities" was carried out.
In 2010-2015 the state budget research topic "Mathematical models of continuum mechanics, transfer theory and information processing theory" was carried out. The staff of the department published 1 personal and 5 collective monographs, works, including: 88 articles, 139 reports and abstracts of reports at international and republican scientific and scientific and technical conferences, 15 teaching aids and educational and methodological complexes.
The results obtained by the staff of the department are of theoretical and practical interest for solving specific problems that are set by industry and the national economy as a whole.
The staff of the department maintain fruitful scientific contacts with specialists working in Russia, Germany, Poland, Italy, the USA, Vietnam and a number of other countries.
The teachers of the department are actively engaged in scientific work with students. Individual work was organized with the aim of in-depth study of the material of the disciplines and their additional sections in the following areas:
- methods for solving ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations;
- approximation of functions;
- development of universal Web-interfaces for publishing on the Internet;
- methods of computer design in engineering environments;
- programming of game applications;
- development of graphical interfaces using various technologies;
- mathematical modeling and numerical algorithms using application software packages;
- mathematical modeling of economic problems.
The results obtained by students in the course of research work are used in the topics of term papers in computer science in the second year of the PSF in accordance with the specialties.
The department annually held a meeting of the section "Computer Science and Applied Mathematics" within the framework of the student scientific and technical conference of BNTU "New directions in the development of instrumentation". Since 2011, the section has been called "Applied Problems of Instrument Engineering", which more accurately reflects the direction and topics of research. Under the guidance of teachers of the department, students prepare papers for participation in interuniversity, republican and international conferences. Students studying at the department constantly participate in university and republican olympiads in mathematics. The works of students who participated in the Republican competition of student works were repeatedly awarded various degrees.
Over the past 5 years, students have taken part in 14 International scientific and scientific-practical student conferences and seminars in the country and abroad. More than 150 reports and abstracts were presented. At the student scientific conference held by the department, 85 reports were presented.
