Citizens of foreign countries who come to the Republic of Belarus often wonder about employment. It is important that everything is legal and does not cause difficulties. We tell how foreigners can find and apply for a job in Belarus.

Where to look for a job?

You can find a job in the nationwide bank of vacancies or other thematic Internet resources, print media. One of these resources  is gsz.gov.by.

You have found a job. What's next?

On July 1, 2023, the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On External Labor Migration" No. 233-Z of December 30, 2022 (hereinafter – the Law) came into force.

One of the innovations is:

• Employment of foreigners receiving vocational and secondary specialized education in educational institutions of Belarus, regardless of the specialty (previously, only foreigners receiving higher education were excluded from the regulation of Chapter 4 of the Law, and employment in the specialty was mandatory). At the same time, the working time should not exceed half of the usual working time, i.e. 20 hours per week.

Only a fixed-term employment contract can be concluded with an immigrant worker.

Important! The validity period of the employment contract must not exceed the validity period of the special permit. The conclusion of a contract is not allowed.

The requirements for an employment contract between an immigrant worker and an employer are supplemented by a condition that the amount of remuneration is not lower than the minimum wage in force in the republic on the date of conclusion of the employment contract.

Who does not require a special permit?

Special permission is not required for citizens of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. They may also enter into civil law contracts.

What else is important for a foreign citizen to know?

After five years of continuous residence in the territory of the Republic of Belarus, a foreigner can apply for permanent residence.

Important ! If you are a specialist that a certain organization of the Republic of Belarus needs with the appropriate confirmation, the employer can apply for you to obtain permanent residence in the Republic of Belarus immediately after signing the employment contract.

What should be in an employment contract?

The employment contract is concluded in Russian and (or) Belarusian, as well as in your native or understandable language, if Russian and (or) Belarusian are not such. If you are not yet on the territory of Belarus, you can ask the employer to send you a draft employment contract for review, since you will sign it after your arrival.

The employment contract must contain:

• term of the employment contract;
• the procedure, grounds for termination, amendment and extension of the employment contract;
• conditions for moving to Belarus;
• the procedure for remuneration;
• rights and obligations of the employer and employee;
• place of work;
• position, profession;
• nutritional conditions;
• accommodations;
• conditions of medical care;
• conditions of social insurance.

If you need a visa to enter Belarus, then it can be obtained at the embassy or consulate of the Republic of Belarus in your country or at the Minsk airport, if there is no such institution, on their websites, as well as on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus , if all work visa requirements.

In order to legally stay in Belarus, a foreigner must, within ten days after entry, either register for 90 days, and then receive temporary residence, or immediately receive temporary residence if they already have a special permit and an employment contract.

Where can I register?

You can register at the citizenship and migration departments at your place of residence or on the portal.gov.by website . To do this, you need to create a personal account on the website, in the “Available Services” tab, select the category “Citizenship and Migration” (the code for the registration of foreigners is 200.12.14.1.), order the service, fill in all the required fields in the application. After sending the application, a message appears indicating successful registration, or the system will recommend contacting the Citizenship and Migration Unit if the information does not match.

Important ! You can be registered by someone else, indicating your passport and other data, but remember that the responsibility for the correct registration lies only with you! If you come with your family, you need to register all family members.

What are the exceptions?

Citizens of the Russian Federation are registered within 90 days from the date of entry, citizens of the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, Ukraine and the Republic of Estonia - 30 days, citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Armenia - 30 days (if they concluded within 10 days from the date of entry (employment or civil law contract).
