The Department of Engineering Ecology was established on February 11, 2019, consolidating the former departments of "Ecology" and "Chemistry."
The Department of Ecology of the Belarusian National Technical University was founded on January 1, 1991. Initially, the department served as a scientific-methodical and consulting center for continuous environmental training and retraining of specialists. From 1992 to 1994, the department developed and implemented a system for continuous environmental training of engineers throughout their education, which was adopted by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus as a fundamental model for all technical universities in Belarus.
The Department of Chemistry was established as one of the university's first departments in 1920. It has prepared courses in general and inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical and colloid chemistry for students across all university faculties.
The newly established Department of Engineering Ecology integrates educational, methodological, and scientific developments from the former departments of ecology and chemistry.
The department boasts a modern technical and educational-methodical base, including ten educational and two research laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art educational tools and a computer lab.
The faculty comprises highly qualified professors, associate professors, lecturers, and support staff. The modern technical and educational-methodological base, along with the high qualifications of the faculty, ensures high levels of education in both scientific-technical and pedagogical aspects.
The Department of Engineering Ecology participates in numerous international educational and research programs and maintains creative collaborations and cooperation agreements with universities in Germany, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Serbia, Croatia, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and other countries.
The department is responsible for training environmental engineer-managers specializing in "Environmental Management and Audit in Industry." Graduates of the department are in demand at industrial enterprises, environmental service organizations, research institutes, and other institutions. The department also offers a master's program in "Environmental Management," which covers fundamental engineering disciplines, modern information technologies, methods for solving environmental and management challenges, economics and production management organization, natural resource management, modeling of environmental processes, and economic, legal, and organizational aspects of environmental management. The curriculum includes in-depth study of chemistry, utilization of modern communication methods, and foreign languages. Leading scientists and specialists from the Republic of Belarus, as well as representatives from foreign universities, enterprises, and organizations collaborate in the training of specialists.
The department conducts research in environmental management systems, nature conservation technologies, renewable energy sources, rational waste management, environmental education, and other areas. Scientific activities are carried out in cooperation with research institutions and enterprises of the Republic of Belarus. A branch of the department is established at the State Scientific Institution "Institute of Nature Management of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus." The branch is a structural unit of the department engaged in educational, methodological, and scientific research activities among students, as well as the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel and their qualification enhancement.
The department provides training for postgraduates in the field of "Ecology" and hosts an annual republican student scientific-technical conference. Department staff regularly participate in republican and international scientific conferences, meetings, and congresses.
