The Department of "Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation" provides training for students in the specialties "Heat and Gas Supply, Ventilation and Air Protection" and "Low Temperature Engineering". Civil engineers are trained for production, technological, design and research activities for the creation and operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, as well as gas supply and district heating systems for cities and towns, industrial and municipal enterprises, and agricultural facilities. In the process of preparation, much attention is paid to the issues of saving thermal resources and protecting the environment. The department was founded in 1930. Its founder is Professor E.Kh. Odelsky.
For more than 70 years of its development, the department has undergone a number of transformations. In the 60s and 70s of the last century, there was a need to separate from the department "Heat and gas supply and ventilation" the department "Construction thermal physics and the use of heat in construction production", and then divide the department into two graduates "Heating and ventilation" and "Heat and gas supply".
Over time, the merger of the department was required.
During its existence, the department has trained more than 6,000 DVT engineers and participated in the training of more than 12,000 civil engineers, architects, hydraulic engineers, power engineers, economists and chemical technologists. Graduates of the department work throughout the country, in all CIS countries, in a number of far-abroad countries, holding leadership positions in the national economy.
The most significant works of the staff of the department: the only laboratory workshop on heat and gas supply and ventilation in the CIS countries (withstood 3 editions); textbooks "Gas supply", "Technical thermodynamics" (in 2 parts), manuals "Hydraulic calculation of pipelines", "Heating", "Pumps, fans and compressors", "Refrigerating machines and installations", "Automation of heat and gas supply and ventilation systems", "Heat supply", "Heat supply and ventilation. Course and diploma design”, “Energy saving in systems of heat and gas supply, ventilation and air conditioning”, “Construction thermal physics of enclosing structures of buildings and structures”, “Thermal insulation of pipelines of heating networks”, “Plate heat exchangers in district heating systems. Course and diploma design, a lot of teaching aids and instructions for all disciplines of the department. In addition, the staff of the department are the authors of normative republican publications. The staff of the department in different years published monographs (Khrustalev B.M., Senkevich E.V., Kurpan M.I., Dyachek P.I., Akeliev V.D., Kundas S.P., Protasevich A.M., Pokotilov V.V.).

The educational process takes place in specially equipped classrooms, laboratories and a display class, which are regularly replenished with modern equipment.
Laboratory classes are held in a modern laboratory, created jointly with HERZ Armaturen (Vienna, Austria)
Students undergo industrial practice at advanced enterprises, construction sites of the republic, in design and technology institutes: Belsantekhmontazh Trust OJSC No. 1 and No. 2, Trust No. 15 Spetsstroy OJSC, Mingaz Unitary Enterprise, Gazprom Transgaz Belarus OJSC, PRUP "Minskoblgaz", Belgiprogaz, UE "Belpromproekt", PKUP "Minskproekt", Belzhilproekt, Belenergoremnaladka, Minsk heating networks, Teploenergonaladka, JSC "Minsk Automobile Plant", Training Center "Freestyle", CJSC "Kholodon", etc. Students annually take part in student research conferences of BNTU, their works are sent to republican and international competitions. More than 130 people successfully passed through the postgraduate course of the department. The magistracy works. The department holds scientific conferences and seminars. The department managed to maintain and strengthen close creative ties with colleagues from near and far abroad countries (CIS countries, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Denmark, Vietnam, Algeria). Scientific trips abroad provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the best practices and scientific and technical achievements in various fields of science, industry, construction, as well as with the system of higher specialized education, conduct joint scientific research and introduce their developments not only in our republic, but also abroad.
