Research Directions of the Department:
The department focuses on three primary research areas: professional pedagogy and psychology, geometric modeling using various modern computer-aided design systems, and specific technical fields. Within the framework of a state interuniversity program, the department conducts research based on themes approved by the Scientific Council of BNTU. Results from these studies are presented annually at a scientific-practical conference organized by the department for its faculty. The department's staff actively participates in national and international scientific-practical conferences held by leading universities in Belarus and neighboring countries to address discipline-related issues and strengthen inter-university ties. The faculty and engineering staff continually enhance their professional qualifications at the Republican Institute of Innovative Technologies in various fields. Associate Professor A.Yu. Lyashkevich is responsible for the department's research activities.
Annual Olympiad in Descriptive Geometry:
Since 2005, the department has annually hosted an Olympiad in "Descriptive Geometry" for first-year students of the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU). The purpose is to identify talented students, engage them in scientific work, improve the organization of the educational process, and enhance the training of young teachers.
This year, the departmental Olympiad in descriptive geometry served as a preliminary round for further academic competitions in the engineering graphics profile. The winners represented BNTU at the Open International Student Olympiad in Engineering Graphics "DRAW Masters – 2022," held from March 22-24, 2022, at the BNTU Scientific Library in Minsk.
The Olympiad was inaugurated by members of the organizing committee, including the Chairman, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of BNTU, Yuri Alexandrovich Nikolaychik; Deputy Chairmen, Dean of the Auto-Tractor Faculty, Denis Vasilievich Kapsky; and Head of the Department of Engineering Graphics for Mechanical Engineering Profile, Timur Vladimirovich Matsiushinets; Secretary, Senior Lecturer of the department, Natalya Mikhailovna Gritsko; and Associate Professor of the department, Petr Vasilyevich Zeleny.
A creative greeting in poems by Belarusian poets and original costumes was presented by students of the State Educational Institution of Secondary School No. 53 in Minsk, which created a festive atmosphere and flavor of nationality.
The participants and guests of the Olympiad were hospitably greeted with bread and salt according to tradition.
The format of the Olympiad included two sections: "Descriptive Geometry" and "Engineering Graphics".
Teams from:
Moscow State Technical University named after N. E. Bauman - sections "Descriptive geometry" and "Engineering graphics" (team leader senior teacher of the department "Engineering graphics" Khusnetdinov Timur Rustyamovich );
Belarusian National Technical University - section "Descriptive Geometry" (team leader Associate Professor of the Department "Engineering graphics of machine-building profile" Petr Zeleny );
Belarusian National Technical University - section "Descriptive geometry" (team leader senior teacher of the department "Engineering graphics of a building profile" Sherbina Olga Nikolaevna );
Educational Institution "Brest State Technical University" - section "Engineering Graphics" (team leader senior teacher of the department "Descriptive Geometry and Engineering Graphics" Mishchiruk Olga Mikhailovna );
Belarusian National Technical University - section "Engineering graphics" (team leader, senior lecturer of the department "Tractors" Dzema Andrey Anatolyevich ).
After the opening ceremony of the event, a lottery was held for the participants of the Descriptive Geometry section. At this stage of the Olympiad competition, the participants had to solve four problems on the following topics: surfaces, intersection of surfaces, intersection of surfaces by planes; mutual position of straight lines, a straight line and a plane, two planes; ways to convert a drawing; visual images. To solve the Olympiad tasks in the section "Descriptive geometry", the participants were given 210 minutes.
The work of the second section - "Engineering Graphics" - was held on March 23 . The task of the participants was to build working drawings of the specified parts of the assembly unit using graphic packages in the allotted 270 minutes.
The Olympiad ended on March 24, 2022 with a solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of the Open International Student Olympiad in Engineering Graphics "DRAW Masters - 2022". The closing of the Olympiad took place in the BNTU Scientific Library and was accompanied by a performance by the leaders of the Olympiad and a creative musical number.
In each section, three prize-winning places were determined in the individual standings and one prize-winning place in the team.
By decision of the jury, the awards were distributed as follows:
