The most important scientific achievements are connected with the development of the theory and the development of directions for improving the working process and systems of autotractor diesel engines.
Scientific school under the guidance of Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Kukharenka G.M. substantiated and developed methods for improving the working process of high-speed diesel engines for individual elements and in combination. Practical solutions are being implemented to ensure a high technical level of forced diesel engines.
In addition, the department conducts research in the following areas:
- research developments in the field of automation of functional systems of autotractor diesel engines.
- improvement of methods of vehicle braking by the engine.
- development of methods for studying mechanical vibrations of torsional systems.
- improvement of ARCH of highly accelerated diesel engines with controlled supercharging and intermediate air cooling.
- development of diagnostic models and modern methods for diagnosing autotractor engines.
- Ensuring environmental safety of engines.
- study of the working process of an engine running on mixed biofuels.
The department participated in scientific research within the framework of the State scientific programs:
- “Mechanics”, the task “Development, creation and research of unified high-tech components (exhaust gas converter, engine diagnostic system) to create competitive diesel engines with a power of up to 190 hp in terms of efficiency and reliability.”
- “Chemical technologies and productions” subprogram “Low-tonnage chemistry”, task “Development of a mathematical model and study of the effect of mixtures of gasoline with biobutanol on engine performance”.
Work is underway within the framework of the State Program for Applied Research “Mechanics, technical diagnostics, metallurgy”, on the assignment “Research, development and justification of technical solutions for devices and systems, creation of prototype models of diesel engines of Euro-6 environmental level and engines operating on alternative fuels” .
The department in its research activities cooperates with JSC "Minsk Motor Plant", universities of Russia and Ukraine.
Students of the department take an active part in research work. A number of students carry out term papers and theses with a research bias. More than 20 students annually participate in various republican and international conferences, including abroad. In October 2010, employees, students and undergraduates of the department took part in the International Congress on trucks, road trains and urban transport FISITA, held at the BNTU.
The department trains graduate students in the specialty 05.04.02 "Thermal engines", as well as masters in the specialty 7-06-0715-01 "Transport".
