From January to April of the 2026 academic year, faculty from the Department of Theory and History of Architecture held a series of career guidance events at the BNTU Lyceum and at Minsk Gymnasiums No. 15 and No. 75. The meetings with the students were led by Associate Professor G.A. Dubovitskaya, Associate Professor I.N. Ozheshkovskaya, and Senior Lecturer M.I. Kitaev.
The department representatives provided detailed information on admissions requirements, creative challenges, portfolio development, and professional development opportunities for future architects. The students also learned about student life, project work, the work of architectural studios, and how ideas are transformed into real projects.
Furthermore, a master class in drafting and composition was held for the BNTU Lyceum art class.
The events generated great interest among the students and helped many decide on their future career.
Yesterday, April 7, students from the Faculty of Architecture visited the "Code of Myths" exhibition project at the National Library of Belarus. Mikhail Kitaev, Acting Head of the Department of Theory and History of Architecture, accompanied the students on their tour.
The exhibition combined ancient and Belarusian mythological themes, featuring over 200 exhibits: from rare books and graphic works to sculptures and elements of national costume. The project's metaphor was the trade route "from the Varangians to the Greeks," which served as a symbol of cultural exchange.
A special place in the exhibition was given to the academic work of first-year students from the BNTU Faculty of Architecture's Department of Theory and History of Architecture. This is the result of painstaking work using the technique of "washing" architectural monuments—a classic school of hand-drawn graphics. Among the students' works on display are detailed depictions of the St. Bridget Monastery in Grodno and the Holy Dormition Cathedral in Vitebsk.
– These projects are completed in the first year. Students select an object and find all the necessary drawings: plans, elevations, sections, and perspective views. Next, everything is assembled on a 55x75 tablet and the drawing process begins. After this, the process of "washing" with ink begins, taking into account the light and shadows to reveal all the planes and volumes of the building, – explained Mikhail Kitaev.
According to Mikhail Igorevich, the first year focuses on hand-drawn rendering. This allows students to develop a "feel" for form and work professionally with graphics even before they move on to using computer programs in their senior years.
The exhibition vividly demonstrates the shared values and values of different peoples, and art itself serves as a living bridge between cultures, enriching them with new visual images.
The Department of Theory and History of Architecture traditionally held a summer training internship. First-year students studied the basics of architectural surveying, while simultaneously exploring the features of the architectural heritage of Minsk. During the internship, they took introductory excursions to the historical center of the city, the Loshitsa estate and park complex, and the palace and park ensemble in Nesvizh.

On March 13, 2025, teachers of the Department of Theory and History of Architecture and Urban Planning participated as a jury of the XIV Republican Competition of Scientific and Technical Creativity of Student Youth "TechnoIntellect" in the "Composition" section.

In accordance with the order of the rector of BNTU No. 1200-k dated November 28, 2023, an internship was held at the Bukhara Engineering and Technology Institute (BukhITI) from December 11, 2023 to December 18, 2023, associate professor of the department of “Theory and History of Architecture” Dubovitskaya G.A. and training of students of the Faculty of Architecture: 11101420 study group (4th year), budgetary form of education Merkulova Valeria Olegovna and students of the Faculty of Architecture 11101221 study group, budgetary form of education Alyokhin Vladimir Andreevich, Selyav Anastasia Sergeevna, Banetsky Nikolai Pavlovich, 3rd year students of the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) in specialty 1-69 01 01 “Architecture” on the topic “Compositional organization of forms and space of architectural heritage.” Meetings were held with the head of the Department of Architecture of BukhITI, Ph.D. architecture, associate professor Mirzaev Sh.R., teachers of the department and students-architects of BukhITI. In the process of undergoing training in accordance with the agreement on international cooperation between BNTU and BukhITI on the implementation of joint educational programs for training specialists (dated June 12, 2020), AF students took a course in the discipline “Traditional residential houses of the peoples of Uzbekistan” (4 hours of lectures, 14 hours of practice ).

On August 29, 2023, classes began at the Educational Institution “National Children's Technopark”. Classes are taught by Associate Professor of the Department of Theory and History of Architecture, Candidate of Architecture Matveeva E.V. and senior lecturer of the department of “Theory and History of Architecture” Kitaev M.I. Students complete and successfully defend their projects within the framework of a chosen topic in the following possible areas of research: “Small architectural form in a historical environment”, scientific and creative project “Art object in an urban environment”, scientific and creative project “Small pavilion in an urban environment” and others.

On June 7, 2023 at 13.00 at the meeting of the council for the defense of dissertations D02.05.15 at the Belarusian National Technical University, the dissertation of the senior lecturer of the Department of Theory and History of Architecture OZHESHKOVSKAYA Irina Nikolaevna was defended for the degree of candidate of architecture in the specialty 05.23.23 - architecture of buildings and structures, urban and rural settlements, inter-settlement territories on the topic: "DEVELOPMENT OF THE ARCHITECTURE OF UNITE CHURCHES IN BELARUS AT THE END OF THE 16TH - THE FIRST HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURIES"

Since April 14, 2023, an exhibition of creative works of teachers and students dedicated to Easter has been held in the main building of BNTU on the second floor. The Department of "Theory and History of Architecture" presented student work "The Perspective of Orthodox Churches", as well as the own work of the senior teacher Lebedeva N.N.

Under the guidance of the teachers of the department "Theory and History of Architecture" ( Dubovitskaya G.A. and Kitaev M.I. ), students of the group 11101422 on architectural design developed concepts for the improvement of Yakub Kolas Square, installation and thematic design of the facade of the building of the military-technical faculty of BNTU from the side of the avenue Independence, as well as facade solutions for the BNTU educational buildings on Yakub Kolas Street. Each student presented his project at a meeting with the chief architect of Minsk ( O.M. Veramey ) for further consideration and participation in the competition.

On February 13, 2023, a meeting of the labor collective was held, dedicated to summing up the results in the review competition of the university departments. The Department of Theory and History of Architecture became the winner in the nomination "Best Humanitarian Department" in the 2021/2022 academic year and took 4th place among the general university departments.

On February 6 , 2023, a scientific and practical conference was held at the Department of Theory and History of Architecture (within the framework of the 75th Scientific and Technical Committee of the teaching staff of BNTU), at which the teachers of the department made presentations.
On January 26, 2023, the master's thesis was defended by the undergraduate of the department "Theory and History of Architecture" O.Yu. Attas for a master's degree on the topic of the master's thesis "Methods and principles of restoration on the example of the restoration of St. Andrew's Church in the city of Slonim, Grodno region."
The teachers of the Theory and History of Architecture Department ( E.V. Matveeva , Associate Professor, M.I. Kitaev , Senior Lecturer) conduct classes during the academic year as part of the educational program of additional education for gifted children and youth, organized by the Educational Establishment "National Children's Technopark ” , in the educational direction “Architecture and Design” (“Introduction to Architectural and Architectural Design Design”).
