Information Systems and Technologies

It may seem that the work of the programmer is monotonous but it is not true at all! Representatives of this profession consider it creative and fascinating.

The course is oriented on training highly qualified programmers in the field of engineering, software production and operation on the basis of modern information technologies. We follow up-to-date development trends of visual systems for app production, production of network software technologies, web servers design and operation and maintenance of information security.

In the course of studies students learn the theory and methodology of object-oriented programming, local and distributed applications, software engineering, methods and systems of mathematical modeling of processes and devices, data management methods and means, engineering graphics, decision making methods and algorithms, etc. 

Career Advancement Opportunities

Software engineers have extensive knowledge of programming languages, software development, and computer operating systems. By applying these engineering principles to every stage of the development process, from requirements analysis to the software process, they can create customized systems for individual clients. Just as a civil engineer will make sure that a bridge has a solid foundation, a software engineer will also begin with a thorough study of requirements and work through the development process in a systematic way. Many Software Engineers choose to start their own engineering firms or work on a freelance basis as their own bosses. 

In the past several years the Republic of Belarus has earned the reputation of the leading “IT country” in the Eastern European region. Online game World of Tanks was developed by the Belarusian studio Wargaming.net, the authors of the popular application for communication Viber are Belarusian programmers as well. Belarusian companies work within the “Belarusian Silicon Valley” – the High-Tech Park. Three of them already entered the top-100 of the largest world companies in this sphere: EPAM Systems, IBA Group and Intetics Co. Automation of Technological Processes and Production 

Nowadays automation of control and monitoring of the state of technological processes has become an integral part of activities of any enterprise. Automation comprises mechanical and electromechanical computerized production, development of hardware and software, development of adaptive and optimal algorithms, and design of distributed microprocessor control systems and local area networks. The curriculum of this specialty provides an in-depth study of electronics, microprocessor technology, local and global networks, databases, system and application software.

Career Advancement Opportunities

Graduates obtain the automation engineer qualification. The specialists are in high demand at every enterprise in any industry, including small and medium-sized businesses. Students interested in research can take up master's and PhD studies.

Industrial and Civil Engineering

People-serving profession and, by right, the most popular specialty of the whole Faculty of Civil Engineering. Here students are trained to work at the largest enterprises at any stage of construction.

Civil engineering is the professional practice of designing and developing infrastructure projects (development of nationwide transport systems, water supply networks, individual roads or buildings). The main objective of training in this specialty is to prepare students for success within the professional practice of construction management. This preparation includes an understanding of the design, engineering, business and technical principles and practices used in the construction industry. It also includes an awareness of the ethical, social and legal responsibilities of practicing professionals.

You will learn to apply mathematics and scientific knowledge to real-life situations and problems that arise from creating and maintaining structures, taking into account environmental, financial, legal and ethical considerations. Moreover, those who study civil engineering will get to develop their design skills, particularly computer-aided design.

Career Advancement Opportunities

Those who study civil engineering may also have opportunities to participate in field trips and complete industry placements. Graduates can work as managers and engineers in construction organizations and companies engaged in maintenance, repair and reconstruction of industrial and civil facilities.

Machine Building Technology

It is the specialization with diverse opportunities to contribute to the next stage in the development of modern technology.

There’s a lot of overlap between mechanical engineering topics and other engineering fields, particularly civil engineering and electrical engineering. At undergraduate level, students will start with an introduction to key mechanical engineering topics, such as statics and dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, stress analysis, mechanical design and technical drawing. Subsequently, students get thorough knowledge in mechanical engineering technology, automation of technological process, computer-aided design of technological processes of material treatment and assembly, and automation of design of treatment software for CNC machines. Graduates are trained to solve the following professional tasks:

  • Upgrading and mastering technological processes for mechanical treatment of machine parts and machine assembly providing the necessary quality of machines with minimum cost and maximum safe productivity;
  • Designing and manufacturing of advanced tooling for assembly works;
  • Organization and management of assembly production;
  • Analysis of production efficiency and development of measures enhancing the efficiency;
  • Training and professional development of assembly production personnel;
  • Teaching students of vocational and higher education institutions in the field of mechanical engineering technology and other engineering disciplines;
  • Carrying out research aimed at increasing the efficiency of assembly production in mechanical engineering.

Career Advancement Opportunities

The graduates are qualified as engineers. Engineers in this speciality are experts in material treatment and machine assembly. They are prepared to work as production engineers and heads of departments or workshops at industrial enterprises, research and development organizations, and scientific institutions. Students interested in research can take up master's and PhD studies.

Applicants to all engineering degrees are expected to have a strong background in mathematics and physics, which provide the basic foundations for most mechanical engineering skills.

Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Technical Maintenance of Automobiles)

Automotive and tractor faculty is the largest and one of the most prestigious faculties of BNTU. It is the center for training specialists for automotive and tractor industry and the transport system of Belarus.

Graduates obtain the qualification of mechanical engineer and a driving license. They get job assignments to service centers, technical services of automobile transportation and repair enterprises, shipping departments of factories and agricultural enterprises as well as to research and design organizations in the field of transport, and higher education and vocational training institutions.

Biotechnical and Medical Apparatus and Systems

Training is focused on design of medical instruments, devices, and systems intended to replace lost organs, specialized therapeutic and rehabilitation training apparatus for people with special needs, and relevant manufacturing technologies.

Students study the effects of physical fields on biological objects, all known physical principles underlying modern technical devices for diagnostics and therapy, electronic devices. In addition, the students have the course of human physiology and anatomy. Students have summer internship in medical institutions and at enterprises manufacturing medical equipment. All the students interested are provided with opportunity to take part in research and development of medical devices under supervision of experienced lecturers. Students interested in research can take up master's and PhD studies.

Graduates of this speciality are trained to work for:

  • enterprises related to development and manufacture of medical devices,
  • therapeutic and diagnostic medical institutions, including oncological institutions,
  • medical and biological research institutes applying complex instruments and devices for diagnostics and therapy, as well as correcting undesirable body conditions.

Career Advancement Opportunities

Biomedical engineers who obtain a graduate degree may land a job that will let them supervise and handle a research team. They may get additional training and education from dental and medical schools where they can earn more credentials. Doing so will allow them to find an area where they can specialize in. Alternatively, they may get a law degree and become patent attorneys.

Courses structure and assessment methods

Undergraduate degrees in BNTU will be four years in length (240 credits) at undergraduate level and one or two at master’s level. Graduates receive a BEng or a MEng qualification upon completion of their studies. Teaching will typically consist of lectures and seminars and undertake independent or group project work. Assessment is likely to be via a combination of written exams, presentations and research projects.

BNTU offers various facilities for the students' personal growth and recreation: sports grounds, cultural centers, libraries, student clubs, etc. Our university is the place to unleash your inner potential. You can take part in such huge annual events as Spring BNTU (in dance, vocal or instrumental section), Miss or Mister BNTU, Freshman's Day and others. 

Furthermore, you can participate in sport competitions both among individual students and groups.

Once a year, a BNTU student can go to the Polytechnic sanatorium to rest near the Minsk Sea combining medical procedures with studies.

Mind you, you can be admitted to BNTU on the assumption that you have got general secondary education or vocational education confirmed by educational certificate. If you are a citizen of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic or the Republic of Tajikistan you have the right to apply for fee-paying program depending on interview results.
