Sergey Antonovich Chizhik (born 1959) is an outstanding Belarusian scientist in the field of nanotechnology, tribology and nanodiagnostics of materials. In 1980 he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of the Belarusian State University. He began his scientific career at the Institute of Mechanics of Metal Polymer Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

He defended his PhD thesis (1987) on calculating the characteristics of a multilevel contact taking into account submicrospinness and his doctoral thesis (1998) on tribomechanics of precision contact. Since 2007, he has been Deputy Director of the A.V. Lykov Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. From 2012 to 2025, he held senior management positions at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus: since 2012 — Deputy Chairman of the Presidium, since 2014 — First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Since August 2025, he has been the Head of the Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology at BNTU.

Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (2009), member of the editorial boards of scientific journals "Reports of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus", "Mechanics of Machines, Mechanisms and Materials", "Instruments and Measurement methods". He is a laureate of the Academician V.A. Koptyug Prize (2020) and the prize of the Academies of Sciences of Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova (2020). He is the author of more than 500 scientific papers, including 8 monographs and 35 patents. Under his leadership, the production of domestic atomic force microscopes of the Nanotop and Nanotester series was developed and established.

The connection with BNTU was formed as a result of long-term cooperation in the field of training highly qualified personnel in the field of nanotechnology. In 2024, S.A. Chizhik was awarded the honorary title of "Honorary Professor" BNTU for outstanding scientific achievements, contribution to the development of the Belarusian nanoindustry and strengthening the scientific and educational potential of the university. At the time of awarding the title, he held the position of First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Sergey Antonovich actively collaborated with the university in the framework of joint research projects, supervised the preparation of dissertations of young scientists, participated in the organization of conferences and seminars. Since August 2025, he has been the head of the Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology at BNTU, which has become a logical continuation of his long-term cooperation with the university. His scientific school in the field of nanodiagnostics and tribomechanics has gained recognition both in Belarus and abroad, and his research is widely used in industry.
